"Previous studies have found that marital satisfaction and perceptions of equity were influenced by participants' gender and attitudes concerning sex roles (Ray, 1990; Van Yperen and Buunk, 1990; Antill and Cotton, 1988). Although these variables have been found to be significantly correlated in a variety of groups, one important population has been overlooked: married college students. Investigations with these individuals may be important since the demands of schoolwork leave less time for the married student to fulfill established roles as parent, housekeeper, and financial provider. Thus, the current study was developed to test for differences in perceptions of equity and marital satisfaction with a sample of 80 male and female married college students who held traditional sex-role ideation. Participants completed Global and Detailed Equity/Inequity (Ell) questionnaires, the Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale (KMS), and the Robinson Behavioral Inventory (RBI) of sex role attitudes. This study involved a 2 (Gender: male and female) group design. Dependent variables were scores of perceived equity and of marital satisfaction. Data were analyzed using a between subjects one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and chi square.
