Book Description
This publication originally formed part of a Master’s degree dissertation completed in 2011 by Nabeel. Research was undertaken over a period of two years at a Further Education college and a small private college where Nabeel delivered a level 7 post-graduate management programme accredited by a leading UK awarding organisation. A range of curriculum-level strategies were deployed by Nabeel and his colleagues in order to embed equality and diversity and reduce barriers to learning for international students undertaking the programme. These had a positive pedagogical and performance-related impact. The findings will be of particular interest to teachers and managers responsible for undergraduate, post-graduate and professional programmes being delivered to international students or to learners whose first language is not English, as well as those considering curriculum-level and progression strategies for business and management programmes at level three and above. The research may also provide useful insight to managers and teachers of other subject areas which are internally assessed. The findings are correct as at February 2011. Minor updates have been made to the case study, as well as selective editing and certain stakeholders have been anonymised for ethical reasons. Although the national landscape may have changed since 2011, the strategies applied remain valid and independent of such context. Research questions considered in this dissertation: What constitutes embedding of Equality and Diversity at curriculum level? What are the likely barriers to student learning / achievement on the PGDMS (Level 7 Management) programme? What elements should be prioritised for embedding at curriculum level in order to improve E & D for Blue College PGDMS (Level 7 Management) students? This publication builds on and incorporates the literature review published and entitled: Equality and Diversity: Embedding Equality and Diversity into the Curriculum - a literature review.

Equity, Equality and Diversity in the Nordic Model of Education PDF Author: Tove Stjern Frønes
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030616487
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 412

Book Description
Does the Nordic model of education still stand by its original principles and safeguard education for all? This Open Access volume is a carefully crafted collection of chapters that investigate the different aspects of equity, equality and diversity across the education systems in the Nordic countries. Based on data from various national and international large-scale assessments, the volume provides a better understanding of both the functions and foundations of the Nordic model, along with how the concepts mentioned above are enacted in practice. Across the chapters, data from different national and international large-scale assessment studies are used for cross- and single-country analyses on a variety of issues related to equity, equality and inequality in diverse educational settings. The investigations address different subject domains (i.e., mathematics, science, reading), age and grade groups, but also issues related to teachers and the schools themselves. In addition to these empirical chapters, the book addresses the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of the ideas and tools embedded in the phenomena of equity and equality and how they have met in the Nordic model of education.

Book Description
This textbook provides you with all the up-to-date information and guidance you need to pass first time. It focuses systematically on each of the assessment criteria in the unit and provides a suggested structure for drafting responses to meet the requirements of the unit’s assessment criteria. As a lecturer / trainer / tutor / assessor / curriculum manager, how do you ensure: 1. that all individual learners’ needs are identified and met effectively? 2. that full account is taken of disability and learning difficulties when preparing and delivering teaching, learning and assessment strategies? 3. that strategies applied to reduce the barriers to learning experienced by disabled learners and those with learning difficulties are legitimate and reasonable and do not provide them with an unfair advantage? 4. that the most appropriate teaching, learning and assessment methods are used?, and 5. that sessions are planned and delivered effectively (and evidenced accordingly as part of a MICRO-TEACH? This textbook addresses each of these questions, with supporting research as needed, while remaining tightly focused on the unit’s assessment criteria. Out of the three units of the Award in Education and Training, Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training is probably the most demanding to understand and apply. ISBN: 0807750786
Category : Education

Pages : 321

Book Description
The achievement of students of color continues to be disproportionately low at all levels of education. More than ever, Geneva Gay's foundational book on culturally responsive teaching is essential reading in addressing the needs of today's diverse student population. Combining insights from multicultural education theory and research with real-life classroom stories, Gay demonstrates that all students will perform better on multiple measures of achievement when teaching is filtered through their own cultural experiences. This bestselling text has been extensively revised to include expanded coverage of student ethnic groups: African and Latino Americans as well as Asian and Native Americans as well as new material on culturally diverse communication, addressing common myths about language diversity and the effects of "English Plus" instruction.
