Book Description
From the posterboy of Catholic conservatism, a major change of heart and soul on one of the Church's most controversial and intractable stances. "This past February, a conservative Roman Catholic blog, Contra|Diction, gave me perhaps my best headline ever: 'Michael Coren Complicit in Destruction of Souls Who Practice Homosexuality, Pt 1' (I'm still waiting for part two). It was one of countless posts, tweets, and articles that have condemned me for coming out in favour of same-sex marriage. I've also been fired from columns that I wrote for years, been banned from various Catholic TV and radio stations, had speeches cancelled, and been accused of cheating on my wife. My children have been called gay, and I have been compared to a child molester and a murderer. These are new experiences for me. Until last year, I was considered something of a champion of social conservatism in Canada and was well known among politically active Christians. I hosted a nightly show on Crossroads Television for twelve years, was a syndicated Sun columnist, and wrote briskly selling books with such titles as Why Catholics Are Right. Today, I am working away at a new book, Epiphany: Changing Heart and Mind on Same-Sex Marriage. How and why did it go so terribly wrong?" --Michael Coren What went "terribly wrong" is that Michael Coren had a profound spiritual and personal change of heart. Epiphany is about how and why that happened; the reaction from both sides of the fence; and how the Christian doctrine, when studied closely and without bias, heartily supports Michael's findings. As a middle-aged, very white, very straight, very Christian man, he was obliged, first reluctantly and then eagerly, to explore the complex dynamic between faith and homosexuality and to work out a new narrative. The crux of that narrative: God is love. Honest, brave, and rigorous in its scholarship, Epiphany is a groundbreaking book on one of society's most pressing issues.

Why Catholics Are Right

Why Catholics Are Right PDF Author: Michael Coren
Publisher: McClelland & Stewart
ISBN: 0771023235
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 242

Book Description
A practicing Catholic defends the faith and offers a passionate response to current anti-Catholic opinion. In Why Catholics Are Right, author, columnist, and practicing Catholic Michael Coren examines four main aspects of Catholicism as they are encountered, understood, and more importantly, misunderstood today. Beginning with a frank examination of the tragedy of the Catholic clergy abuse scandal, Coren addresses some of them most common attacks on Catholics and Catholicism. Tracing Catholic history, he deconstructs popular and frequent anti-Catholic arguments regarding the Church and the Crusades, the Inquisition, Galileo, and the Holocaust. He examines Catholic theology and central pillars of Catholic belief, explaining why Catholics believe what they do: papal infallibility, immaculate conception, the Church rather than Bible alone. Finally, he explores the dignity of life argument and why it is so important to Catholicism. In this challenging and thought-provoking book, Michael Coren demolishes often propagated myths about the Church's beliefs and teachings, and in doing so, opens a window onto Catholicism, which, he writes, "is as important now as it ever was and perhaps even more necessary."

With Death Comes As Epiphany, the first in the Catherine LeVendeur mystery series, medievalist Sharan Newman has woven dark mystery and sparkling romance into a fascinating and richly detailed tapestry of everyday life in twelfth-century France, and one of the most moving love stories of all time: Abelard and Heloise. Catherine LeVendeur is a young scholar come to conquer her sin of pride at the Convent of the Paraclete, famous for learning, prayer, and its abbess, the fabled Heloise. When a manuscript the convent produced for the great Abbe Suger disappears, rumors surface saying the book contains sacrilegious passages and will be used to condemn Heloise's famous lover, Peter Abelard. To save her Order, and protect all she holds dear, Catherine must find the manuscript and discover who altered the text. She will risk disgrace, the wrath of her family and the Church, and confront an evil older than Time itself--and, if she isn't careful, lose her immortal soul. The Meditation of My Heart

The Meditation of My Heart PDF Author: Donald J. Richardson

Languages : en
Pages : 150

Book Description
This book of picture post cards illustrates the 1907 Jamestown Exposition. The event was established to celebrate the three hundred years of America's existence in a fitting manner. The event included the entire nation as well as countries around the world. There are one hundred and thirty-five picture post cards in this booklet; showing the houses contributed by the twenty-one States, and the Exhibition buildings with historical items from their home state. Many of the exhibitions displayed untold treasures some of which are described in this booklet. And, some of which still exist on the Norfolk Navel Base today. The "Fair" grounds were designed to give free access too strolling. The area was surrounded by a fence with climbing flowers to enhance the area with a pleasant garden atmosphere. Rough, but well worn paths lead over the grounds from one exhibit to another; across rough bridges and throughout wooded areas. A few of the pictures show the Hampton Roads Harbor. In 1907, the pictures show Norfolk not to be solidly developed. However, forty years before, during the great Civil War the Merrimac and the Monitor's battles in those waters had drawn great attention to the area. The scenes from those two ships are incorporated in this history; reviewing our nations great naval development. Theodore Roosevelt was President during this period of time. He showed by his actions, his enthusiasm for this unusual event. He stated," that the event was intended to serve the world notice of America's rich history and powerful place in the world stage: making Hampton Roads, that world stage." On opening day the harbor was filled with ships from many nations of the world.

Epiphanies

Epiphanies PDF Author: Sophie Grace Chappell
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0192858017
Category : Epiphanies
Languages : en
Pages : 463

Book Description
Epiphanies is a philosophical exploration of epiphanies, peak experiences, 'wow moments', or ecstasies as they are sometimes called. What are epiphanies, and why do so many people so frequently experience them? Are they just transient phenomena in our brains, or are they the revelations of objective value that they very often seem to be? What do they tell us about the world, and about ourselves? How, if at all, do epiphanies fit in with our moral systems and our theories of how to live? And how do epiphanic experiences fit in with the rest of our lives? These are Sophie Grace Chappell's questions in this ground-breaking new study of an area of inquiry that has always been right under our noses, but remains surprisingly under-explored in contemporary philosophy.
