Book Description
This manual describes procedures for the linear-elastic time-history dynamic analysis and development of acceleration time-histories for seismic design and evaluation of concrete hydraulic structures. The manual provides guidance on the formulation and performance of the linear-elastic time-history dynamic analyses and how the earthquake input time-histories are developed and applied. Time-history dynamic analysis is employed as the final design and evaluation procedure to compute the probable seismic behavior of a concrete hydraulic structure in accordance with the progressive method of analysis described in Engineer Regulation (ER) 1110-2-1806 and Engineer Manual (EM) 1110-2-6050.

Seismic soil structure interaction of navigation locks
Author: Maltidis, Georgios
Publisher: KIT Scientific Publishing
ISBN: 3731507188
Category : Engineering (General). Civil engineering (General)
Languages : en
Pages : 430
Book Description
This work handles the seismic soil- and water structure interaction of navigation locks in the field of elastodynamics. The investigation is based on numerical analysis with the finite element method. The findings extend the results of available theories and studies and allow for a more precise analysis and design of such structures. Suggestions about the numerical analysis of such problems are also presented. The results can be used also for quay and retaining walls.

Engineering and Design: River Hydraulics (Engineer Manual 1110-2-1416)
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781780397467
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 186
Book Description
This manual presents the techniques and procedures that are used to investigate and resolve river engineering and analysis issues and the associated data requirements. It also provides guidance for the selection of appropriate methods to be used for planning and conducting the studies. Documented herein are past experiences that provide valuable information for detecting and avoiding problems in planning, performing, and reporting future studies. The resolution of river hydraulics issues always requires prediction of one or more flow parameters; be it stage (i.e., water surface elevation), velocity, or rate of sediment transport. This manual presents pragmatic methods for obtaining data and performing the necessary computations; it also provides guidance for determining the components of various types of studies.

Book Description
The objective of frequency analysis in a hydrologic context is to infer the probability that various size events will be exceeded or not exceeded from a given sample of recorded events. Two basic problems exist for most hydrologic applications. First the sample is usually small, by statistical standards, resulting in uncertainty as to the true probability. And secondly, a single theoretical frequency distribution does not always fit a particular data-type equally well in all applications. This manual provides guidance in fitting frequency distributions and construction of confidence limits. Techniques are presented which can possibly reduce the errors caused by small sample sizes. Also, some types of data are noted which usually do not fit any theoretical distributions.
