Dentro de las actividades forestales existe un grupo de personas encargado de prevenir y combatir los incendios forestales llamados brigadas de incendios forestales. La actividad del brigadista o combatiente forestal es una labor que se realiza en terreno, donde las variables de tipo geográfico y ambiental dificultan la actividad humana, estas demandas físicas pueden producir daños musculares, esqueléticos o psicosociales, donde estos últimos son de suma importancia para la organización, algunos factores psicosociales que influyen en el desempeño del trabajador forestal son: estrés, fatiga y estrategias de afrontamiento. El objetivo general de la investigación fue determinar la relación existente entre estrés y fatiga (o alguna de sus dimensiones) de brigadistas de incendios forestales, además de identificar las estrategias de afrontamiento más utilizadas por ellos. La población en estudio correspondió a un total de 41 brigadistas forestales, de los cuales 16 brigadistas pertenecieron a las empresas WorkingonFire y 25 de Serfonac. Los resultados arrojaron que a nivel general no existen relaciones significativas entre las variables estrés y fatiga, sin embargo, el estudio demostró que existen correlaciones positivas débiles entre la respuesta a la pregunta"¿se ha sentido fatigado?" y estrés, esto quiere decir que a medida que aumente su sensación de fatiga, también aumentarán en una moderada proporción sus índices de estrés. Además se determinó que las estrategias más utilizadas por los brigadistas de incendios forestales son: aceptación, afrontamiento activo y planificación.
