Clustering and Routing Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks

Clustering and Routing Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks PDF Author: Pratyay Kuila
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351648705
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 273

Book Description
Wireless Sensor Networks have a wide range of applications in different areas. Their main constraint is the limited and irreplaceable power source of the sensor nodes. In many applications, energy conservation of the sensor nodes and their replacement or replenishment due to the hostile nature of the environment is the most challenging issue. Energy efficient clustering and routing are the two main important topics studied extensively for this purpose. This book focuses on the energy efficient clustering and routing with a great emphasis on the evolutionary approaches. It provides a comprehensive and systematic introduction of the fundamentals of WSNs, major issues and effective solutions.

Book Description
Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2017 in the subject Computer Science - Miscellaneous, , course: Ph.D Computer Science, language: English, abstract: Routing and Energy Efficiency is regarded as highly challenging area of Sensor networks. Significant advancements in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) opens doors for wide implementation in real-time applications like Industrial Monitoring, Smart Cities development, Underwater monitoring operations, tracking objects and many more. Energy Efficient routing is regarded as the most challenging task. Sensor networks mostly operate in complex and dynamic environments and routing becomes tedious task to maintain as the network size increases. Lots of routing protocols- Reactive, Proactive and Hybrid are proposed by researchers but every protocol faces some limitations in terms of energy, routing, packet delivery ratio and security. Therefore, to overcome all the routing issues, the trend has shifted to Biological based Algorithms like Swarm Intelligence based techniques. Ant Colony Optimization based routing protocols have demonstrated exceptional results in terms of performance when applied to WSN routing. This thesis outlines routing protocols in sensor networks, highlight the concept of Swarm Intelligence and presents various Ant Colony Optimization based routing protocols for sensor networks. In addition to this, we present Ant Colony based Energy Efficient routing protocol (IEEMARP = Improvised Energy Efficient Multipath Ant Based Routing Protocol) for sensor networks. The proposed protocol takes into consideration various performance metrics like Packet Delivery Ratio, Throughput, Energy Efficiency, Routing Overhead and End-to-End delay. Proposed protocol is simulated and tested using NS-2.35 simulator. Simulation based results stated that IEEMARP routing protocol is overall 16% more efficient in terms of Packet delivery ratio, Energy Efficiency, Throughput, Routing Overhead and End-to-End delay as compared to other ACO based routing protocols. In addition to this, IEEMARP is highly reliable protocol to ensure timely delivery with acknowledgement packet exchange between source node to sink node and vice versa and also combats the issue of congestion and packet dropping to large extent.

Book Description
The increasing inexpensive Wireless Networking hardware has incorporated the mobility support into the existing Wired Networks that must support the data and real time application such as rescue operations, military, hospitals etc. Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) play an important role in the deployment of future Wireless Communication Systems. These networks are required to provide efficient quality of service (QoS). To facilitate communication within the network, efficient routing algorithms are required to create, maintain and repair paths with a minimum overhead. Here we have discussed many protocols that support QoS in different ways using various Network and Communication models. We have focused on providing QoS in different routing techniques using various QoS parameters such as, Network Lifetime, Routing Overhead, Packet Loss, end-to-end Delay, Energy Consumption, Packet Delivery Ratio. Various algorithms have been proposed and their performance is analyzed and compared with existing techniques. The results and the Literature Survey are useful for students and research community, who are working on Ad hoc Networks, Sensor Networks, Mesh Networks, etc.

Book Description
Scientific Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Engineering - Communication Technology, , language: English, abstract: Mobile communication has enjoyed an incredible rise in quality throughout the last decade. Network dependability is most important concern in wireless Ad-hoc network. a serious challenge that lies in MANET (Mobile Ad-hoc network) is that the unlimited mobility and lots of frequent failure because of link breakage. Standard routing algorithms are insufficient for Ad-hoc networks. as a results of major drawback in MANET is limited power provide, dynamic networking. In MANET each node works as a router and autonomously performs mobile practicality. The link connectivity changes ceaselessly because of mobility to reflect this routing information additionally needs to get changed ceaselessly. AODV protocol is projected for this extraordinarily mobile network. In ancient AODV if any node fails in middle of transmission the method starts from the source node but in our propose scheme the transmission starts from the closest neighbor node therefore shows very important reduction in delay and improvement in packet delivery ratio are achieved. It also reduces the routing overhead by reducing the frequency of route discovery process.
