Book Description
Excerpt from Endurance Properties of Some Special Rail Steels For convenience, the figure showing location of test specimens is repeated. Here (fig. Duplicate contiguous (end to end) speci mens were taken giving a group of 12 specimens from each rail. They were taken from adjoining portions to those on which the hard ness tests were made. All test sections were taken from a location at least 1 foot from the end of the rail. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Effect of Service on the Endurance Properties of Rail Steels Fatigue failures are due to the repeated stressing of the structure at stresses greater than the endurance limit of the material in that structure. The endurance limit may be defined as that minimum stress which, if repeatedly imposed, will cause cracks. To develop which will progress under repetition of that stress, causing ultimate failure. Book Description
Excerpt from Tensile Properties of Rail and Some Other Steels at Elevated Temperatures A photograph of a series of test bars after test is shown in Figure 4. The brittle nature of the, fracture is evident. This temperature range, from 600° to 7 00° C., in which this. Rail steel showed such surprisingly low ductility, has been termed the secondary brittle range and the phenomenon secondary brittle ness. It will be referred to as such throughout this report. Effect of Zinc Coatings on the Endurance Properties of Steel (Classic Reprint)

Effect of Zinc Coatings on the Endurance Properties of Steel (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: W. H. Swanger
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781390425611
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 26

Book Description
Excerpt from Effect of Zinc Coatings on the Endurance Properties of Steel The stresses applied to the acid pickled and the coated specimens were calculated on the diameter of the polished specimen before it was pickled or coated. The diameters were measured with a special micro meter capable of a precision of plus or minus inch. The change in diameter caused by either the acid treatment alone or the acid treatment and the application of the zinc coating was in all cases less than inch. The tensile strengths of the three materials were determined on standard inch diameter test bars, heat treated in the same way as the endurance specimens. Hardness determinations were made on the ends of the tensile and endurance test bars. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
