Employability and Job In-security

Employability and Job In-security PDF Author: Marcelle Morcos
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Unemployed
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among job security and factors of employability, personal outcomes and demographic characteristics. The population is employees who are affected by job layoffs due to downsizing and includes those still employed, those pending termination and those already terminated. Surveys and interviews were used to gather data. Radical change from a secure working environment has an impact not only on the well-being of the individuals, but also on their work attitudes and behavior. Employees are less inclined to remain with the organization, and more likely to quit. It is imperative that the company address the details. Employees report higher job satisfaction when they have an opportunity to provide input into how decisions are made. Having an influence on decision-making and perceptions of a just and fair process are associated with less severe reactions to job insecurity. Feelings of security enhance employees' efforts to develop themselves for future work change. Organizational change calls for flexible employees at multiple levels, who cope easily with, and recover readily from disappointments.

Rethinking Job Security

Rethinking Job Security PDF Author: Joanna Howe
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1317064038
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 249

Book Description
This book critically examines the proper role of the law in protecting job security in the contemporary workplace. It provides a historical, theoretical, practical and comparative perspective on this under-researched, but fundamentally important, legal mechanism at a time when the pressure to deregulate and dilute worker-protective laws has taken on increased importance. The volume critically analyses both statute and case law from three advanced industrialised liberal democracies with a common law foundation, the UK, Australia and the USA, to understand the extent to which job security is realised. By applying a common approach and a conceptual framework that emphasises the complex relationships between law, the economy and society to analyse a series of national studies, the book is also designed to draw upon the insights of comparative analysis to deepen our understanding of the limits and possibilities of legal regulation of job security. The national case studies are supplemented by research that focuses on how supra-national organisations have sought both to develop and disseminate new legal norms around the practices and processes of dismissal. This study critically analyses and assesses the adequacy of the international regulatory framework for protecting the rights of employees in the dismissal process.
