Excerpt from The Biennial Report of the North Carolina Historical Commission During the period covered by this report there have been changes in both the Historical Commission and in the staff employed by it. J. Bryan Grimes, Chairman of the Historical Commission, died January 11, 1923. To succeed him as commissioner, W. N. Everett was appointed by the Governor. At a meeting of the Historical Commission, held April 17, 1924, Thomas M. Pittman was elected Chairman, W. N. Everett, Vice-chair man, and an executive committee elected, composed of Thomas M. Pittman, W. N. Everett, and M. C S. Noble. All these appoint ments and elections have continued to the date Of this report. Daniel Harvey Hill, Secretary of the Historical Commission since 1921, died July 31, 1924. At a meeting of the Historical Commission held October 17 1924, R. B. House was elected to the office of Secretary. At this same meeting D. L. Corbitt was elected to the permanent staff of the Historical Commission as Calendar Clerk. By your direction I publish as an appendix to this report accounts of the life and services of J. Bryan Gimes and Daniel Harvey Hill.
