The attempt has been made to present in a clear and logical manner the important principles only. The book furnishes enough material in Spanish grammar, texts, conversation, and composition for one year of college and two years of high school work, granting that about one half of the time be given to the reading and translation of literary texts. In high school work the authors recommend that the work of the first year end with Lesson XXX. The exercises, which are of a practical character, have been prepared with the greatest care and in accordance with modern pedagogical principles. They are in the form of connected, practical, and interesting dialogues, descriptions and narratives concerning school, city and country life, and ordinary business transactions. He may make frequent reviews; change the subject pronouns in the texts; add conversational exercises both for oral and written work, based on the texts; or reproduce from day to day the subject matter of the previous lesson.
