Book Description
Solubilities and conductivities of inorganic salts in the cyclic esters ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate, gamma -butyrolactone, and gamma - valerolactone have been studied. A number of common inorganic salts were found to be highly soluble in all of these solvents. The variation of solubility with the physical properties of the solvents is discussed. Conductivity measurements have shown that a number of salts investigated behaved as strong electrolytes. Certain solutions of highly soluble inorganic salts were found to have high viscosities in these solvents. Such relatively low-melting covalent halides as AlCl/sub 3/, NbCl/sub 5/, and FeCl/sub 3/ were found to be quite soluble. The solubilities and conductivities characterizing these solutions conform to present- day concepts, and are explained in the light of modern solubility theory. Solutions of a variety of salts were electroreduced, providing further data for the characterization of these solvents. This study indicates that, in addition to those metals which may be obtained from aqueous solutions, some of the highly electropositive metals may also be electrodeposited. These solvents arc characterized by high dielectric constants, low vapor pressures, relatively low toxicity, and high chemical stability, and are relatively nonreactive with anodically liberated halogens. Such properties are desirable in an easily handled ionizing mediuun. (auth).

Ec Mechanism for Electroorganic Synthesis by Cyclic Voltammetry

Ec Mechanism for Electroorganic Synthesis by Cyclic Voltammetry PDF Author: Asfaw Negash

Book Description
Electrochemistry provides very interesting and versatile means for the study of chemical reactions. Recently, the terms molecular electrochemistry have been used for that part of electrochemistry that studies the mechanistic events at or near an electrode on a molecular level. The main goal of the electrochemical studies is the elucidation of the sequence of electron transfer and chemical reactions that occur near the electrode surface and their applications to electrosynthesis of organic compounds. Among many electrochemical techniques presented for the study of chemical reactions, cyclic voltammetry has become a very popular technique for initial electrochemical studies of new systems, and has proven as very useful tool in obtaining information about fairly complicated electrode reactions. Cyclic voltammograms are frequently and routinely used today to define the redox properties of newly synthesized organic compounds, based the viewpoint of green chemistry. There fore this book is very important for the synthesis of electroorganic compounds with EC mechanism.

Book Description
With escalating global population, increased consumption of fossil fuels, spiralling energy demand, rapid environmental degradation and global climate change, energy and environmental issues are receiving considerable attention worldwide from the purview of sustainable development. In order to address these complex and interlinked challenges, the development of new materials for affordable green energy technologies (batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells and solar cells) and environmental remediation methods (adsorption, photocatalysis, separation, and sensing) is essential. Three-dimensional graphene-based macrostructures (3D GBMs) are of great interest in these applications given their large surface area and adaptable surface chemistry. Graphene-based 3D Macrostructures for Clean Energy and Environmental Applications provides a critical and comprehensive account of the recent advances in the development and potential applications of high performance 3D GBMs for tackling global energy and environmental issues in a sustainable manner. Particular attention is paid to the fabrication schemes, modulation of physiochemical properties, and their integration into practical devices, and the roles of surface chemistry and pore morphology, as well as their interplay, on the overall performance of 3D GBMs are examined. With contributions from authors around the world this book is a useful resource for both environmental scientists interested in sustainable energy and remediation solutions and materials scientists interested in applications for 3D GMBs.
