Book Description
Excerpt from Electrochemical and Metallurgical Industry, Vol. 7: A Monthly Journal of Electrochemistry and Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering; From January to December, 1909 As to production, it is to be observed that pig iron produc tion in the second half of 1908 has exceeded that of the first half by about tons, or by almost 30 per cent, and that this has been the case despite the fact that much work financed and undertaken before the October panic was continued into 1908. The leading structural interests worked for months in this past year almost wholly on contracts thus furnished. Had it not been for this and other work which so lapped over. The first half of 1908 would have shown still smaller production and the second half would have shown a greater appearance of recovery by the emphasis given to the contrast. It is obvious that the trade has been steadily jogging along the road of re covery. We have compared second half production with first half; the comparison can be taken in detail: june was a month of very small production, and each following month has shown a successive increase in tonnage. That there has been steady progress is certain, and it is along the road of recovery. That the road can be traveled, in the present manner. Until the point of previous record production is reached. Is not so certain. While that it can pass this point, and attain a new tonnage rate. Con forming to the increased capacity which is coming into being.
