Book Description
Excerpt from Text-Book of Electrochemistry The basis of this book is a series of lectures delivered by me at the University of Stockholm in the autumn of 1897. The English translation has been made from the German edition. In the German translation, made by Dr. H. Euler, many improvements and additions to the original Swedish edition were introduced with reference to the literature up till 1901. Only few alterations have been made in the present edition, and these refer mainly to typographical errors. By the list of literature-references collected by Dr. McCrae considerable value has been added to the book. Book Description
Excerpt from Electro-Chemistry: Inorganic No separate treatise on electro-chemistry exists in the English language. The facts relating to the subject lie scattered in a great number oi_ books and periodicals. Perceiving the utility of such a treatise, I have collected the numerous truths yet discovered in the subject and arranged them in consecutive order in the following pages. The treatise is not, however, merely a systematic and orderly collection of facts, but contains also brief descriptions of the known laws and general truths which underlie them. Experimental Electrochemistry (Classic Reprint)

Experimental Electrochemistry (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Nevil Monroe Hopkins

Pages : 316

Book Description
Excerpt from Experimental Electrochemistry It has been the aim of the author to produce a book that will prove useful in both the lecture room and in the laboratory. Although a work upon the subject of electrochemistry must presuppose a working knowledge of chemistry and electricity, it has been the object of the writer to introduce the subject as clearly as possible, dealing with chemistry and electricity without assuming too much on the part of the student. The book is so written that it may be read through as a history by the student, presenting theory and practice together, with the introduction of an ample number of experiments to supply experimental evidence for the theories advanced. In the later and more practical part of the book, exercises in preparing electrolytic compounds and in isolating metals are introduced. It has also been the aim of the writer to introduce new material with suggestions for additional experiments with the hope that the work will not be unwelcome to those already well informed in the subject. Electrochemistry is at best a subject for the advanced student, and in order to carry out the experimental work with profit, as given here, he must have pursued beforehand laboratory courses in both chemistry and physics. If the more mature and experienced student profits by a study of the book, or the instructor obtains assistance in teaching or suggestions for new work, the object in writing the book will be attained. Book Description
Excerpt from The Elements of Electro-Chemistry With the exception of a few alterations, either suggested or accepted by Professor Le Blanc, the present work is as nearly as practicable a literal translation. The rapid advance of the subject within the past few years has rendered treatises which adequately present it scarce, therefore I hope to have satisfied a want, and to have increased the facility of study for the English reader in this field. It is with pleasure that I express here my great indebtedness to Mr. J. A. Craw of Glasgow, Scotland, for the aid he kindly gave me in the translation, and to Professor A. A. Noyes of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, U.S.A., for correcting the proofs. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Electro-Chemical Analysis, Vol. 1 The larger texts devoted to analysis have omitted electrolysis from their pages, thus rendering its special treatment necessary and desirable. The plan adopted in the following pages in present ing this subject has been to give a brief introduction upon the behavior of the current toward the different acids and salts, a short description Of the various sources of the electric energy; its control and measure ment; after which follow a condensed history Of the introduction of the current into chemical analysis, and sections relating to the determination and separation of metals, as well as the oxidations possible by means Of the electric agent.
