Book Description
Excerpt from Electric Transmission of Energy: And Its Transformation, Subdivision, and Distribution, a Practical Handbook Regards their weight, which in many cases appears to be excessive. It is a fact difficult to explain that electro motors have hitherto been so much neglected, whereas dynamos have received all the attention. There are a number of firms in this country whose principal business is to manufacture dynamos, but there is no firm of im portance occupied exclusively with the manufacture of motors. Consequently, when motors were required for transmission of energy - as, for instance, in electric rail ways - the only means of doing the work was by adapt ing a dynamo to act as a motor, and thus get a rough-and ready arrangement, by no means the best which could be devised. This state of things is gradually mending, as some dynamo makers have begun to devote attention to the manufacture of motors. In doing so they are forced to abandon, for the most part, their special systems. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.
