Electric Dipole Radiation in Isotropic and Uniaxial Plasmas

Electric Dipole Radiation in Isotropic and Uniaxial Plasmas PDF Author: John J. Kenny

Category : Dipole moments
Languages : en
Pages : 97

Book Description
An investigation is described of radiation from an electric point dipole situated in a cold, collisionless, homogeneous, electronic plasma medium. Two limiting cases of a gyroelectric medium are studied. The magnetostatic biasing field is first taken to be equal to zero, making the medium isotropic, and then it is taken to be infinite, causing a uniaxial anisotropy. The retarded electromagnetic fields and the instantaneous and averaged values of irreversibly radiated power are calculated. In each medium, the partial differential equations resulting from the two-sided Laplace transformation of Maxwell's equations with an oscillating electric dipole source and the constitutive equations (derived from the appropriate form of the Lorentz force equation) are solved. (Author).

Electromagnetic Radiation from a Dipole in an Anisotropic Plasma

Electromagnetic Radiation from a Dipole in an Anisotropic Plasma PDF Author: Hans Henry Kuehl
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Electromagnetic theory
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
The general solution to the problem of the radiation of an electric dipole in a magnetically-biased cold plasma is presented. Since the magnetostatic field causes the plasma to be anisotropic, the far field is in general quite complicated. It is found that in general several waves exist, traveling in different directions with different indices of refraction. These waves interfere to produce beats and amplitude modulation, also causing the resultant time-average energy flow to have components in other than the radial direction, a result which is contrary to the isotropic case.

Radiation from an Electric Dipole in a Plasma Column

Radiation from an Electric Dipole in a Plasma Column PDF Author: S. R. SESHADRI
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 24

Book Description
The radiation characteristics of an axially oriented electric dipole in an isotropic plasma column are investigated. Surface waves are found to be excited for frequencies less than 1/ square root of 2 times the plasma frequency. The dependence of the power carried by the surface as well as the space wave, on the frequency and the radius of the plasma column are examined. The surface waves are found to be excited with maximum efficiency in the neighborhood of 1/2 times the plasma frequency. The radiation pattern in the far-zone is evaluated and found to have, in general, a maximum in the broadside and a null in the end-fire directions. The normalized radiation resistance is found to vary as the square of the frequency for small column dimensions and for high frequencies. (Author).

Dipole Radiation in a Periodic Plasma

Dipole Radiation in a Periodic Plasma PDF Author: Nelson H. Keeler
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 71

Book Description
The problem of dipole radiation in a cold, collisionless, isotropic, periodically stratified plasma is analytically treated. Formal solutions for both electric and magnetic excitation of an antenna mounted normal to the striations of the stratified medium are presented. The dipole radiation characteristics of the transverse electric field and transverse magnetic field are determined, respectively, from the transcendental equations of the resultant Mathieu and Hill equations. The propagation characteristics of both cases contain stop bands that give rise to critical angles in the radiation pattern. In the region of the critical angle the radiation pattern is discontinuous and singular. (Author).
