En Teoría y práctica del ensayo, Hugo Neira desarrolla una suerte de manual sobre el ensayo, partiendo de la teoría para luego explicar cómo se escribe un ensayo a partir de la deconstrucción de su propio ensayo Tiempo y destiempo, trabajo finalista en el concurso internacional de ensayo convocado por la ciudad de Weimar en el año 2000.
