"La educación ha sido objeto de estudio a lo largo de los años, muchos de los cuales se enfocan en entender cómo evoluciona la educación para armonizar con la realidad social del momento. Por otra parte, la educación ha estado ligada siempre a las transformaciones sociales que demandan el desarrollo de nuevas visiones y tendencias educativas, así como de noveles enfoques, modelos y estrategias de enseñanza. Sin embargo, a pesar de estas propuestas educativas y la necesidad de éstas, autores como Gutiérrez y Tyner (2012), mencionan que los cambios en el campo educativo no marchan al ritmo de los cambios sociales, es decir, capacitan a los estudiantes para desarrollarse como personas y ciudadanos en una sociedad que ya no existe. La enseñanza de la ciencia no está exenta de estos aspectos que señalamos. De hecho, algunos estudios documentan que los estudiantes conocen muy poco sobre cómo las actividades científicas se relacionan con las actividades humanas, así como las repercusiones que tienen estas actividades sobre nuestra sociedad y viceversa. Por esta razón el propósito de este estudio fue desarrollar una unidad curricular que utilizó el modelo de Aprendizaje Basado en Proyecto (ABPr) para fomentar en los estudiantes el entendimiento de la relación entre el conocimiento científico y el desarrollo tecnológico, así como sus implicaciones sociales. De igual forma, integró los videojuegos para facilitar el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje para promover el entendimiento de la relación entre Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (CTS). Para lograr los objetivos de este estudio se utilizó una metodología cualitativa y se adoptó el diseño de investigación en acción de Stringer (2014). Como parte del proceso de recopilación de datos se utilizaron como técnicas grupos focales, entrevista, análisis de documentos y observaciones participativas. La unidad desarrollada implementó en un curso de ciencias ambientales del nivel secundario bajo el tema de la Sustentabilidad y participaron 18 estudiantes y un docente. Luego de analizar los datos se concluye que el proceso de implementación de la unidad curricular representó una oportunidad para ofrecer una experiencia educativa sobre situación social real. Los hallazgos del estudio evidenciaron que el modelo ABPr fomentó entre los estudiantes el entendimiento, tanto del contenido académico como de la relación entre CTS. Asimismo, el modelo, mediante el proceso de investigación que promueve, facilitó que los estudiantes alcanzaran una mejor comprensión de cómo opera la ciencia y se afecta por asuntos sociales. Finalmente, los videojuegos, como herramienta tecnológica facilitaron el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje en el aula"--pages iv-v.
