A Review of Swedish Bearing Steel Manufacturing and Quality Assurance of Steel Products
Author: Patrik L. J. Ă–lund
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Commodification
Languages : en
Pages : 13
Book Description
The Swedish bearing steel industry dates back a century. Already in the early days, Swedish bearing steels were characterized by an exceptionally high quality due to the availability of pure iron ores that made it possible to produce bearing steels by the acid open-hearth processes. Development of the ladle furnace process using inductive stirring made it possible to use the much more flexible and cost effective electric arc melting process. The strive to produce ever better steel products has been strong, driven by increasing demands on final product performance. Developments in steel processing technology, process know-how, and understanding of the complex relationships governing steel cleanliness are worth noting. Methods used have undergone vast improvements in recent times and the development continues. The same situation is valid for the quality assurance methods employed in the manufacturing of steel products.

Metal Fatigue: Effects of Small Defects and Nonmetallic Inclusions
Author: Yukitaka Murakami
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080496563
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 384
Book Description
Metal fatigue is an essential consideration for engineers and researchers who are looking at factors that cause metals to fail through stress, corrosion, etc. This is an English translation of a book originally published in Japan in 1993, with an additional two chapters on the fatigue failure of steels and the effect of surface roughness on fatigue strength. The methodology is based on important and reliable results and may be usefully applied to other fatigue problems not directly treated in this book.

Steels: Metallurgy and Applications
Author: David Llewellyn
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080517765
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 403
Book Description
STEELS: Metallurgy and Applications provides a metallurgical understanding of commercial steel grades and the design, manufacturing and service requirements that govern their application. The properties of different steels are described, detailing the effect of composition, processing and heat treatment. Where appropriate an introduction is given to standard specifications and design codes provided on component manufacture and property requirements for successful service performance. The book deals with steel products in some depth, in four chapters covering wide strip, structural steels, engineering and stainless steel grades. At the begining of each chapter an overview is given which details important features of the grades and a historical perspective of their development. Also featured are up to date information on steel prices and specifications. David Llewellyn has over thirty years experience in the steel industry and is currently lecturing in the Materials Engineering Department at University College Swansea. '..the book unfolds into an easily readable and a valuable source of highly relevant and contemporary information on steels' - METALS AND MATERIALS '.. a high quality product from all points of view' - INSTITUTE OF METALS AND MATERIALS AUSTRALASIA features up to date information on steel prices and specifications.
