Effect of Calcium Chloride on Cement Stabilization of Soils

Book Description
Testing of field-mixed samples. Laboratory mixed samples of the same material resulted in strength increases. CaCl2 modification increases the electrical conductivity and dielectric value of soil-cement mixtures which might imply increased susceptibility to longer term moisture-induced weakening at high dosage levels. The overall body of research presented in this thesis suggests that more data are needed before CaCl2 modification of soil-cement can be confidently specified as a method for mitigating the effects of low temperatures on strength gain. Results herein are both informative and promising, but additional data are required to investigate the effects of temperature, mineralogy, and clay mineral presence.

Stabilization of Soils

Category : Soil mechanics
Languages : en
Pages : 72
Book Description
Paper 1: Properties of loess soils are studied for an understanding of stabilization involving cementing reactions. Mechanical analyses were performed on four loess samples by hydrometer and pipette methods. Paper 2: The effects of calcium chloride under different moisture conditions and compactive efforts were observed by experimentation in stabilization of a bank-run gravel with calcium chloride. Paper 3: A laboratory investigation is described of the following variables involved in mixing Portland cement into a clayey silt: uniformity of soil and cement mixture, compressive strength of the resultant soil-cement, time of mixing, and accumulative energy required for mixing.

Stabilized Earth Roads
Author: A. Kézdi
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0444596402
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 328
Book Description
Developments in Geotechnical Engineering, Volume 19: Stabilized Earth Roads surveys soil stabilization theory and practice. This work is divided into nine chapters that discuss the physical, chemical, and soil mechanics principles of soil stabilization. The first chapter is an introduction to the history, methods, and importance of soil stabilization in road construction. The next chapters deal with the fundamental definitions of soil physics and the interactions of soil components, as well as the concept of mechanical soil stabilization. Considerable chapters examine soil stabilization with several materials, such as cement, lime, bitumen, and tar. The last chapters describe the soil-stabilization methods with various chemicals, including chlorides, phosphoric acid, and natural and synthetic polymers. These chapters also consider the design of stabilized earth roads. This book is of value to geologists and civil engineers.
