Los mitos viejos están siendo sustituidos por nuevos mitos, publicitados por la sociedad de mercado para convertir la actividad sexual en un producto más de consumo. Usamos el término mito no en el sentido de la cultura clásica, sino entendiéndolo como «falsas creencias sobre la sexualidad», cuando estas se generalizan o son defendidas por religiones, grupos de personas y algunos profesionales como si fueran indiscutibles. La realidad es que una persona puede tener una vida amorosa monógama o poliamorosa, las dos son diversidades sexuales. Siempre que sea con principios éticos, corresponde a cada persona tomar decisiones en libertad sobre su biografía sexual. La sexualidad humana está en el reino de la libertad, podemos y debemos decidir con libertad nuestra vida sexual y amorosa. La ética son los buenos usos de la libertad, los que favorecen la vida buena de la que hablara Sócrates. Para ello, son necesarias tres condiciones básicas: conocimiento frente a la ignorancia y los mitos; condiciones personales y sociales para poder decidir con libertad, y educación sexual. Estas condiciones nos permitirán construir nuestra biografía sexual y amorosa con libertad y ética. Esta obra invita a reflexionar y poner en duda los viejos y los nuevos mitos sobre la sexualidad. Examining the social, medical and cultural history of male homosexuality in Spain, this book looks at it from the time homosexuality came to be an issue of medical, legal and cultural concern. Research into homosexuality in Spain is in its infancy. The last ten or fifteen years have seen a proliferation of studies on gender in Spain but much of this work has concentrated on women's history, literature and femininity. In contrast to existing research which concentrates on literature and literary figures, "Los Invisibles" focuses on the change in cultural representation of same-sex activity of through medicalisation, social and political anxieties about race and the late emergence of homosexual sub-cultures in the last quarter of the twentieth century. As such, this book constitutes an analysis of discourses and ideas from a social history and medical history position. Much of the research for the book was supported by a grant from the Wellcome Trust to research the medicalisation of homosexuality in Spain.
