Seabuckthorn is one promising plant that got into focus of public interest. It is the wide range of applications, it's ecological promising benefits and the social-economic effect that inspire people around the world to deal with Seabuckthorn. Actual developments shows a growing interest not only of directly involved persons but of public in general. Since 2003 every second year scientist, producers and growers and enthusiasts met at ISA – International Seabuckthorn Association conferences (the society was founded 2001 on Seabuckthorn Workshop in Delhi) to exchange information, establish new contacts and discuss the future of Seabuckthorn-world. Starting with a small heap of enthusiasts, the scientific community now includes several hundred active and certainly far more than a thousand of interested members. In October 2013 6th meeting of ISA was held in Potsdam, Germany. This booklet is to show a selection from the presented results, some outstanding poster and additional material given by various scientists to the authors. It is to encourage Seabuckthorn friends to intensive and faster to deal with the stated aim of this publication, with research on Seabuckthorn and technological-technical developments. Anyone who reads this book is welcome to send his posts and comments on it to the authors.

This book offers a devastating look at deeply flawed development processes driven by international finance, African governments and the global consulting industry. It examines major river basin development underway in the semi-arid borderlands of Ethiopia, Kenya and South Sudan and its disastrous human rights consequences for a half-million indigenous people. The volume traces the historical origins of Gibe III megadam construction along the Omo River in Ethiopia—in turn, enabling irrigation for commercial-scale agricultural development and causing radical reduction of downstream Omo and (Kenya's) Lake Turkana waters. Presenting case studies of indigenous Dasanech and northernmost Turkana livelihood systems and Gibe III linked impacts on them, the author predicts agropastoral and fishing economic collapse, region-wide hunger with exposure to disease epidemics, irreversible natural resource destruction and cross-border interethnic armed conflict spilling into South Sudan. The book identifies fundamental failings of government and development bank impact assessments, including their distortion or omission of mandated transboundary assessment, cumulative effects of the Gibe III dam and its linked Ethiopia-Kenya energy transmission 'highway' project, key hydrologic and human ecological characteristics, major earthquake threat in the dam region and widespread expropriation and political repression. Violations of internationally recognized human rights, especially by the Ethiopian government but also the Kenyan government, are extensive and on the increase—with collaboration by the development banks, in breach of their own internal operational procedures. A policy crossroads has now emerged. The author presents the alternative to the present looming catastrophe—consideration of development suspension in order to undertake genuinely independent transboundary assessment and a plan for continued development action within a human rights framework—forging a sustainable future for the indigenous peoples now directly threatened and for their respective eastern Africa states. The book "Alien Invasive Plants in Israel" by Dr. Jean-Marc Dufour-Dror, is now available in a new 2012 English-language edition, which has been updated since the publication of the 2010 edition in Hebrew. This full color, soft-cover book is divided into three chapters: The first chapter is dedicated to the definitions of several basic concepts required for understanding the topic of invasive plant ecology. An overview of the main ecological and biological characteristics typical of invasive plants is presented in this chapter, with all examples taken from invading taxa in Israel. The second chapter presents a brief analysis of the major characteristics of the phenomenon of invasive plants in natural areas in Israel. The first section of this chapter discusses the factors underlying the spread of invasive plants in Israel. The second section reviews their main effects on local ecosystems, focusing on habitats that are particularly susceptible to invasion. In the third section we present a summary of the control techniques and methods currently implemented in Israel to cope with the proliferation of invasive plants in natural areas. The third chapter that makes up the bulk of this book provides detailed and up to date information on the 50 most significant species of alien plants that invade natural and semi-natural habitats in Israel. The information includes a short description of the plant, information on its natural range (origin), background related to its introduction to Israel, information on its known biological and ecological traits, a description of its invasive status in Israel and an explanation of how it affects local ecosystems. Existing and relevant control methods are described for each species. The main regions in the world invaded by the species are mentioned, and a list of references is presented for each species.
