Easy Solution of Practical Transmission Line Problems

Easy Solution of Practical Transmission Line Problems PDF Author: William T. Cowan
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781479263639
Category : Amateur radio stations
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Does that transmission line, which connects your antenna and transmitter, seem like a mystery to you? Or perhaps your have other questions: Just how much of the transmitter's rated output power actually gets to the antenna? How much power is consumed by the line itself? Just what is the input impedance of the antenna? Or, what is the input impedance at the transmitter end of a transmission line when the antenna is connected to its other end? Why does my tuner seem to work better on some bands than others? What is the effect of high transmission line SWR? Should I be concerned about high SWRs? What can I do about them? It is the unusual operator who has not at one time or another asked one or more of these questions. Well, now you can easily answer these questions and many others! Using simple language the author of this book, a former electronic design engineer and amateur over more than 60 years, shows how to find the answers, quickly, easily and accurately. Those more technically inclined can work with the equations provided by the book; those who just want answers without all the math can use a personal computer and specially developed, easy-to-use programs from a CD and get accurate answers directly with the click of a button! But there is more: the book contains many solved examples and each solution is followed by a thorough discussion. Now you can get answers while you learn about transmission lines.

Radiating Nonuniform Transmission-Line Systems and the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit Method

Radiating Nonuniform Transmission-Line Systems and the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit Method PDF Author: Prof. Dr. Juergen Nitsch
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470682418
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 348

Book Description
High frequencies of densely packed modern electronic equipment turn even the smallest piece of wire into a transmission line with signal retardation, dispersion, attenuation, and distortion. In electromagnetic environments with high-power microwave or ultra-wideband sources, transmission lines pick up noise currents generated by external electromagnetic fields. These are superimposed on essential signals, the lines acting not only as receiving antennas but radiating parts of the signal energy into the environment. This book is outstanding in its originality. While many textbooks rephrase that which has been written before, this book features: an accessible introduction to the fundamentals of electromagnetics; an explanation of the newest developments in transmission line theory, featuring the transmission line super theory developed by the authors; a unique exposition of the increasingly popular PEEC (partial element equivalent circuit) method, including recent research results. Both the Transmission Line Theory and the PEEC method are well suited to combine linear structures with circuit networks. For engineers, researchers, and graduate students, this text broadens insight into the basics of electrical engineering. It provides a deeper understanding of Maxwellian-circuit-like representations of multi-conductor transmission lines, justifies future research in this field.

Advanced Technologies for Future Transmission Grids

Advanced Technologies for Future Transmission Grids PDF Author: Gianluigi Migliavacca
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1447145496
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 403

Book Description
The re-engineering of power transmission systems is crucial to meeting the objectives of such regulators as the European Union. In addition to its market, organisational and regulatory aspects, this re-engineering will also involve technical issues dealing with the progressive integration of innovative transmission technologies in the daily operation of transmission system operators. In this context, Advanced Technologies for Future Transmission Grids provides an overview of the most promising technologies, likely to be of help to planners of transmission grids in responding to the challenges of the future: security of supply; integration of renewable generation; and creation of integrated energy markets (using the European case as an example). These issues have increased importance because of administrative complication and the fragmentation of public opinion expressed on the build up of new infrastructure. For each technology discussed, the focus is on the technical-economic perspective rather than on purely technological points of view. A transmission-system-operator-targeted Technology Roadmap is presented for the integration of promising innovative power transmission technologies within power systems of the mid-long term. Although the primary focus of this text is in the sphere of the European energy market, the lessons learned can be generalized to the energy markets of other regions.

Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) for Computational Electromagnetics

Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) for Computational Electromagnetics PDF Author: Jean-Pierre BĂ©renger
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031016963
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 117

Book Description
This lecture presents the perfectly matched layer (PML) absorbing boundary condition (ABC) used to simulate free space when solving the Maxwell equations with such finite methods as the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method or the finite element method. The frequency domain and the time domain equations are derived for the different forms of PML media, namely the split PML, the CPML, the NPML, and the uniaxial PML, in the cases of PMLs matched to isotropic, anisotropic, and dispersive media. The implementation of the PML ABC in the FDTD method is presented in detail. Propagation and reflection of waves in the discretized FDTD space are derived and discussed, with a special emphasis on the problem of evanescent waves. The optimization of the PML ABC is addressed in two typical applications of the FDTD method: first, wave-structure interaction problems, and secondly, waveguide problems. Finally, a review of the literature on the application of the PML ABC to other numerical techniques of electromagnetics and to other partial differential equations of physics is provided. In addition, a software package for computing the actual reflection from a FDTD-PML is provided. It is available here.
