Book Description
Dynamic performance of turbocharged diesel engines is of considerable importance in some applications such as marine propulsion and electric power generation. Under step-load applications turbocharged engines either recover solely or stall depending on the step size and engine speed. This paper describes the experimental and analytical studies of the dynamic behavior of a turbocharged diesel engine. Specially constructed, computer-controlled engine testbed has been described and transient test results for 100 per cent step-load application presented. A mathematical model based on the quasi-steady state assumption has been described in detail and a digital computer simulation based on this mathematical model briefly discussed. The mathematical model takes into consideration the thermal capacity affect on the exhaust gas temperature, a pulse factor based on the authors idea of mean affective turbine expansion ratio to evaluate turbocharger performance under pulsating flow conditions, extra-steady-state losses during a transient condition and re-direction of smoke. Good agreement between the predicted and the test-bed results was achieved. Illustrations describe the text-bed, dynamometer, printed circuit electromechanical governor and predicted and test-bed transient results.

Diesel Engine Transient Operation

Diesel Engine Transient Operation PDF Author: Constantine D. Rakopoulos
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1848823754
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 408

Book Description
Traditionally, the study of internal combustion engines operation has focused on the steady-state performance. However, the daily driving schedule of automotive and truck engines is inherently related to unsteady conditions. In fact, only a very small portion of a vehicle’s operating pattern is true steady-state, e. g. , when cruising on a motorway. Moreover, the most critical conditions encountered by industrial or marine engines are met during transients too. Unfortunately, the transient operation of turbocharged diesel engines has been associated with slow acceleration rate, hence poor driveability, and overshoot in particulate, gaseous and noise emissions. Despite the relatively large number of published papers, this very important subject has been treated in the past scarcely and only segmentally as regards reference books. Merely two chapters, one in the book Turbocharging the Internal Combustion Engine by N. Watson and M. S. Janota (McMillan Press, 1982) and another one written by D. E. Winterbone in the book The Thermodynamics and Gas Dynamics of Internal Combustion Engines, Vol. II edited by J. H. Horlock and D. E. Winterbone (Clarendon Press, 1986) are dedicated to transient operation. Both books, now out of print, were published a long time ago. Then, it seems reasonable to try to expand on these pioneering works, taking into account the recent technological advances and particularly the global concern about environmental pollution, which has intensified the research on transient (diesel) engine operation, typically through the Transient Cycles certification of new vehicles.

Semi-physical Verification Technology for Dynamic Performance of Internet of Things System

Semi-physical Verification Technology for Dynamic Performance of Internet of Things System PDF Author: Xiaolei Yu
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9811317593
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 258

Book Description
This book combines semi-physical simulation technology with an Internet of Things (IOT) application system based on novel mathematical methods such as the Fisher matrix, artificial neural networks, thermodynamic analysis, support vector machines, and image processing algorithms. The dynamic testing and semi-physical verification of the theory and application were conducted for typical IOT systems such as RFID systems, Internet of Vehicles systems, and two-dimensional barcode recognition systems. The findings presented are of great scientific significance and have wide application potential for solving bottlenecks in the development of RFID technology and IOT engineering. The book is a valuable resource for postgraduate students in fields such as computer science and technology, control science and engineering, and information science. Moreover, it is a useful reference resource for researchers in IOT and RFID-related industries, logistics practitioners, and system integrators.

Thermo-and Fluid-dynamic Processes in Diesel Engines

Thermo-and Fluid-dynamic Processes in Diesel Engines PDF Author: James H.W. Whitelaw

Book Description
This volume includes versions of papers selected from those presented at the THIESEL 2000 Conference on Thermofluidynamic Processes in Diesel Engines, held at the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, during the period of September th th 13 to 15 , 2000. The papers are grouped into seven thematic areas: State of the Art and Prospective, Fuels for Diesel Engines, Injection System and Spray Formation, Combustion and Pollutant Formation, Modelling, Experimental Techniques, and Air Management. These areas cover most of the technologies and research strategies that may allow Light Duty and Heavy Duty Diesel engines to comply with current and forthcoming emission standards, while maintaining or improving fuel consumption. The main objectives of the conference were to bring together ideas and experience from Industry and Universities to facilitate interchange of information and to promote discussion of future research and development needs. The technical papers emphasised the use diagnostic and simulation techniques and their relationship to engineering practice and the advancement of the Diesel engine. We hope that this approach, which proved to be successful at the Conference, is reflected in this volume. We thank all those who contributed to the success of the Conference, and particularly the members of the Advisory Committee who assessed abstracts and chaired many of the technical sessions. Weare also grateful to participants who presented their work or contributed to the many discussions. Finally, the Conference benefitted from financial support from the organisations listed below and we are glad to have this opportunity to record our gratitude.
