Book Description
This exhibition design comprises a contemplative space, enhancing the quiet monumentality of Kahn's drawings, as well as reflecting his own preoccupations with symmetry, walls, and their openings. The four trips within the show were arranged chronological in intimate roomlike spaces, color-coded to evoke an atmosphere appropriate to their location: storm blue for New England, saturated yellow for Greece, etc. The color band, which narrows one's focus within the tall gallery and on which all works were hung, was continuous throughout a single trip, and broke between trips, instilling a sense of travel through time and space. Windows framed important works, allowing them to be seen twice, in two contexts, as well as allowing views of a "peopled" space.

Creation

Creation PDF Author: Sylvia Nickerson
Publisher: Drawn & Quarterly
ISBN: 1770465243
Category : Comics & Graphic Novels
Languages : en
Pages : 194

Book Description
New life and opportunities arise from the wreckage of a north american city urban renewal at what cost? A new mother takes us on a tour of Hamilton, a Rust Belt city born of the Industrial Revolution and dying a slow death due to globalization. This mother represents the city’s next wave of inhabitants—the artists and young parents who swarm a run-down area for its affordability, inevitably reshaping the neighborhoods they take over. Creation looks at gentrification from the inside out—an artist mother making a home and neighborhood for her family, struggling to find her place amid the existing and emerging communities. While pushing her child’s stroller around Hamilton, Sylvia Nickerson shows us the warehouse filled with open barrels of toxic sludge, the parking lot where the city’s homeless population sleeps, and the refurbished Victorian house (complete with elegant chandeliers) that is now a state-of-the-art yoga studio. Creation presents the city as a living thing—a place where many small lives intersect and where death, motherhood, pollution, poverty, and violence are all interconnected. Drawn in evocative watercolor, Creation is unafraid to leave questions open-ended as Nickerson wanders the city and ponders just where the personal and the political intersect, and where they ought to intersect.New life and opportunities arise from the wreckage of a north american city urban renewal at what cost?

Book Description
How do we create new ways of looking at the world? Join award-winning data storyteller RJ Andrews as he pushes beyond the usual how-to, and takes you on an adventure into the rich art of informing. Creating Info We Trust is a craft that puts the world into forms that are strong and true. It begins with maps, diagrams, and charts — but must push further than dry defaults to be truly effective. How do we attract attention? How can we offer audiences valuable experiences worth their time? How can we help people access complexity? Dark and mysterious, but full of potential, data is the raw material from which new understanding can emerge. Become a hero of the information age as you learn how to dip into the chaos of data and emerge with new understanding that can entertain, improve, and inspire. Whether you call the craft data storytelling, data visualization, data journalism, dashboard design, or infographic creation — what matters is that you are courageously confronting the chaos of it all in order to improve how people see the world. Info We Trust is written for everyone who straddles the domains of data and people: data visualization professionals, analysts, and all who are enthusiastic for seeing the world in new ways. This book draws from the entirety of human experience, quantitative and poetic. It teaches advanced techniques, such as visual metaphor and data transformations, in order to create more human presentations of data. It also shows how we can learn from print advertising, engineering, museum curation, and mythology archetypes. This human-centered approach works with machines to design information for people. Advance your understanding beyond by learning from a broad tradition of putting things “in formation” to create new and wonderful ways of opening our eyes to the world. Info We Trust takes a thoroughly original point of attack on the art of informing. It builds on decades of best practices and adds the creative enthusiasm of a world-class data storyteller. Info We Trust is lavishly illustrated with hundreds of original compositions designed to illuminate the craft, delight the reader, and inspire a generation of data storytellers.

Book Description
The Oakville OASIS Drawing Bee participants were often hesitant, claiming they did not know how to draw, when we began to meet with coffee on Monday mornings in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. So I would draw examples of what they could draw, from doodling through imagining and remembering subjects, to complex perspective projections, to get them engaged in something other than their worrying and depression. These drawings were combined into four pamphlets, and now into this book. This book has all the practical information one can use to draw pretty much anything and everything. From doodles that develop skills, to drawing from the imagination and memory to improve observation and further drawing improvement, to university level perspective drawing theory and practical solutions, this book has it all for any novice or experienced ""artist."" The intention is to provide a great deal of enjoyment from actually drawing. EnJOY !!!
