Paper 1: This research study of spur dikes was conducted to determine the value of spur dikes as protection for bridge abutments and to determine the relationships between the various geometric parameters. Paper 2: Bent-up ends have been experienced on three large structural plate culverts installed with the upstream ends square and projecting to the fill toe. Installations and failures are described and one explanation of the cause is presented. Paper 3: The problem of erosion control at culvert outlets depends on dissipation of kinetic energy in the horizontal direction, vertical direction, or combination of both directions.
