Book Description
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District in cooperation with several cooperating agencies has prepared this draft environmental impact statement on the Donlin Gold Project proposed by Donlin Gold, LLC (a partnership between Barrick Gold US and NovaGold Resources Alaska under agreement with two landowners). The proposed project is a proposed open pit gold mine to be located ten miles north of the village of Crooked Creek. Many ancillary facilities would be required including the construction of a proposed natural gas pipeline that would run 315 miles connecting with the existing 20-inch natural gas pipeline near Beluga, Alaska. An electric transmission line would be built north of Beluga to power the metering station and compressor station. A proposed dirt road would connect the mine to a new port on the Kuskokwim River. The Kuskokwim River would be used as a water transportation corridor requiring an expansion of the Bethel Yard Dock and fuel terminals in Dutch Harbor.
