Domain Decomposition Methods in Science and Engineering XIX
Author: Yunqing Huang
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642113044
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 484
Book Description
These are the proceedings of the 19th international conference on domain decomposition methods in science and engineering. Domain decomposition methods are iterative methods for solving the often very large linear or nonlinear systems of algebraic equations that arise in various problems in mathematics, computational science, engineering and industry. They are designed for massively parallel computers and take the memory hierarchy of such systems into account. This is essential for approaching peak floating point performance. There is an increasingly well-developed theory which is having a direct impact on the development and improvement of these algorithms.

Multi-Band Effective Mass Approximations
Author: Matthias Ehrhardt
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319014277
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 337
Book Description
This book addresses several mathematical models from the most relevant class of kp-Schrödinger systems. Both mathematical models and state-of-the-art numerical methods for adequately solving the arising systems of differential equations are presented. The operational principle of modern semiconductor nano structures, such as quantum wells, quantum wires or quantum dots, relies on quantum mechanical effects. The goal of numerical simulations using quantum mechanical models in the development of semiconductor nano structures is threefold: First they are needed for a deeper understanding of experimental data and of the operational principle. Secondly, they allow us to predict and optimize in advance the qualitative and quantitative properties of new devices in order to minimize the number of prototypes needed. Semiconductor nano structures are embedded as an active region in semiconductor devices. Thirdly and finally, the results of quantum mechanical simulations of semiconductor nano structures can be used with upscaling methods to deliver parameters needed in semi-classical models for semiconductor devices, such as quantum well lasers. This book covers in detail all these three aspects using a variety of illustrative examples. Readers will gain detailed insights into the status of the multiband effective mass method for semiconductor nano structures. Both users of the kp method as well as advanced researchers who want to advance the kp method further will find helpful information on how to best work with this method and use it as a tool for characterizing the physical properties of semiconductor nano structures. The book is primarily intended for graduate and Ph.D. students in applied mathematics, mathematical physics and theoretical physics, as well as all those working in quantum mechanical research or the semiconductor / opto-electronic industry who are interested in new mathematical aspects.

Optimization with PDE Constraints
Author: Ronald Hoppe
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319080253
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 422
Book Description
This book on PDE Constrained Optimization contains contributions on the mathematical analysis and numerical solution of constrained optimal control and optimization problems where a partial differential equation (PDE) or a system of PDEs appears as an essential part of the constraints. The appropriate treatment of such problems requires a fundamental understanding of the subtle interplay between optimization in function spaces and numerical discretization techniques and relies on advanced methodologies from the theory of PDEs and numerical analysis as well as scientific computing. The contributions reflect the work of the European Science Foundation Networking Programme ’Optimization with PDEs’ (OPTPDE).

Isogeometric Analysis and Applications 2018
Author: Harald van Brummelen
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030498360
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 279
Book Description
This proceedings volume gathers a selection of outstanding research papers presented at the third Conference on Isogeometric Analysis and Applications, held in Delft, The Netherlands, in April 2018. This conference series, previously held in Linz, Austria, in 2012 and Annweiler am Trifels, Germany, in 2014, has created an international forum for interaction between scientists and practitioners working in this rapidly developing field. Isogeometric analysis is a groundbreaking computational approach that aims to bridge the gap between numerical analysis and computational geometry modeling by integrating the finite element method and related numerical simulation techniques into the computer-aided design workflow, and vice versa. The methodology has matured over the last decade both in terms of our theoretical understanding, its mathematical foundation and the robustness and efficiency of its practical implementations. This development has enabled scientists and practitioners to tackle challenging new applications at the frontiers of research in science and engineering and attracted early adopters for this his novel computer-aided design and engineering technology in industry. The IGAA 2018 conference brought together experts on isogeometric analysis theory and application, share their insights into challenging industrial applications and to discuss the latest developments as well as the directions of future research and development that are required to make isogeometric analysis an established mainstream technology.

Software for Exascale Computing - SPPEXA 2016-2019
Author: Hans-Joachim Bungartz
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030479560
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 624
Book Description
This open access book summarizes the research done and results obtained in the second funding phase of the Priority Program 1648 "Software for Exascale Computing" (SPPEXA) of the German Research Foundation (DFG) presented at the SPPEXA Symposium in Dresden during October 21-23, 2019. Sparse Grids and Applications - Miami 2016
Author: Jochen Garcke
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319754262
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 265
Book Description
Sparse grids are a popular tool for the numerical treatment of high-dimensional problems. Where classical numerical discretization schemes fail in more than three or four dimensions, sparse grids, in their different flavors, are frequently the method of choice. This volume of LNCSE presents selected papers from the proceedings of the fourth workshop on sparse grids and applications, and demonstrates once again the importance of this numerical discretization scheme. The articles present recent advances in the numerical analysis of sparse grids in connection with a range of applications including computational chemistry, computational fluid dynamics, and big data analytics, to name but a few.
