Book Description
"This volume captures the experiences of single women in Zimbabwe. It brings out the indigenous cultural socialisations that negatively impact on them. The vibrancy of Pentecostalism did not save them from stigma and negative perceptions but rather fuels their challenges and misery. The over-glorification of marriage over and above singlehood and in extreme cases denunciation of singlehood, has implications for single women, especially for those who have divorced. The attitudes and perceptions towards single women in the families, society and Church are largely adversarial and do not attach dignity and value, in a nation where marriage and motherhood remain important and cherished statuses. Therefore, the author adopts a multi-dimensional approach in analysing and critiquing the pitfalls of Shona indigenous cultures, limitations of Pentecostal gender ideology and proffers avenues that can create safe spaces for single women." --

Tokens of Affection
Author: Karen Kleiman
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 113509361X
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 241
Book Description
Postpartum depression is hard on a marriage. In their private practices, authors Karen Kleiman and Amy Wenzel often find themselves face-to-face with marriages that are suffocating, as if the depression has sucked the life out of a relationship that was only prepared for the anticipated joy of pending childbirth. What happens to marriage? Why do couples become angry, isolated, and disconnected? Tokens of Affection looks closely at marriages that have withstood the passing storm of depression and are now seeking, or in need of, direction back to their previous levels of functioning and connectedness. The reader is introduced to a model of collaboration that refers to 8 specific features, which guide postpartum couples back from depression. These features, framed as “Tokens,” are based on marital therapy literature and serve as a reminder that these are not just communication skill-building techniques; they are gift-giving gestures on behalf of their relationship. A reparative resource, Tokens of Affection helps couples find renewed harmony, a solid relational ground, and reconnection.

Cracked: a Biblical Perspective on Divorce
Author: Bishop Henry R. Griffin
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1512759538
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 106
Book Description
In my world of Conservative Christian policies a divorce was unthinkable. Men and women whose training and background actively prohibited divorce and were very quick to chastise and condemn divorcees. Therefore, this work simply began as a group of self-help notes designed to help me survive the many unpleasant conversations I had with my religious friends. I fully recognize some of the concepts provided in this book may contradict certain Conservative Christian viewpoints. However, they are all 100% scriptural. This book was written to bring comfort to those who have experienced a divorce and want to remarry. To accomplish this goal I had to crack the language code. Too, many of our modern bibles have adjusted the language to promote the Conservative Christian story. I did not write this book to promote divorce. Within the pages of this writing are helpful nuggets designed to assist with conversations between husbands and wives. Ive also included strategies to help maintain a healthy marital relationship. Finally, this book was designed to assist individuals with overcoming the victimization, stigmatization, isolation, embarrassment, shame, and the other sorrows based in ignorance that accompany a divorce in certain religious communities.

Modeling Business Processes
Author: Wil Van Der Aalst, M.P.
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 0262295164
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 399
Book Description
An introduction to the modeling of business information systems, with processes formally modeled using Petri nets. This comprehensive introduction to modeling business-information systems focuses on business processes. It describes and demonstrates the formal modeling of processes in terms of Petri nets, using a well-established theory for capturing and analyzing models with concurrency. The precise semantics of this formal method offers a distinct advantage for modeling processes over the industrial modeling languages found in other books on the subject. Moreover, the simplicity and expressiveness of the Petri nets concept make it an ideal language for explaining foundational concepts and constructing exercises. After an overview of business information systems, the book introduces the modeling of processes in terms of classical Petri nets. This is then extended with data, time, and hierarchy to model all aspects of a process. Finally, the book explores analysis of Petri net models to detect design flaws and errors in the design process. The text, accessible to a broad audience of professionals and students, keeps technicalities to a minimum and offers numerous examples to illustrate the concepts covered. Exercises at different levels of difficulty make the book ideal for independent study or classroom use.

Cultural Sociology of Divorce
Author: Robert E. Emery
Publisher: SAGE
ISBN: 1412999588
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 1625
Book Description
While the formal definition of divorce may be concise and straightforward (legal termination of a marital union, dissolving bonds of matrimony between parties), the effects are anything but, particularly when children are involved. The Americans for Divorce Reform estimates that "40 or possibly even 50 percent of marriages will end in divorce if current trends continue." Outside the U.S., divorce rates have markedly increased across developed countries. Divorce and its effects are a significant social factor in our culture and others. It might be said that a whole "divorce industry" has been constructed, with divorce lawyers and mediators, family counselors, support groups, etc. As King Henry VIII's divorces showed, divorce has not always been easy or accepted. In some countries, divorce is not permitted and even in Europe, countries such as Spain, Italy, Portugal, and the Republic of Ireland legalized divorce only in the latter quarter of the 20th century. This multi-disciplinary encyclopedia covers curricular subjects related to divorce as examined by disciplines ranging from marriage and the family to anthropology, social and legal history, developmental and clinical psychology, and religion, all through a lens of cultural sociology. Features: 550 signed entries, A-to-Z, fill 3 volumes (1,500 pages) in print and electronic formats, offering the most detailed reference work available on issues related to divorce, both in the U.S. and globally. Cross-References and Further Readings guide readers to additional resources. A Chronology provides students with context via a historical perspective of divorce. In the electronic version, the comprehensive Index combines with Cross-References and thematic Reader's Guide themes to provide convenient search-and-browse capabilities. For state and nation entries, uniform entry structure combined with an abundance of statistics facilitates comparison between and across states and nations. Appendices provide further annotated sources of data and statistics.
