Gathered Before God

Gathered Before God PDF Author: Jane Rogers Vann
Publisher: Westminster John Knox Press
ISBN: 9780664226305
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 204

Book Description
What is the central purpose of the church today? How can churches experience renewal through worship? In Gathered before God, Jane Rogers Vann answers these important questions by studying ten vibrant small, medium, and large churches. Her findings, she argues, show that worship is the most important thing churches do and is vital to the renewal of congregational life. Vann explores how these congregations changed into worship-centered churches and how their experiences can help other churches do the same. Gathered before God offers resources for pastors, worship leaders, and Christian educators to reflect on their worship, leading to an openness to change and processes to help church leaders support each other during the periods of reform and renewal. Moving beyond the "contemporary versus traditional debate," Gathered before God is an earnest call for us all to reclaim worship as a central act of our life together as Christians that expresses clearly what the church believes about God, itself, and the world.

In Your Eyes I See My Words

In Your Eyes I See My Words PDF Author: Pope Francis
Publisher: Fordham University Press
ISBN: 0823287602
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 311

Book Description
In Your Eyes I See My Words, Volume 2 contains Pope Francis’s homilies and speeches spanning from 2005 to 2008. Continuing what began in the first volume of this three-volume publication, Volume 2 shows Archbishop Bergoglio’s growth as a pastor and a theologian/scholar in the midst of his people. At the same time, it shows him emerging as an international voice calling for changes in the way the Church carries out its ministry and its educational task on behalf of children, youth, adults, and church ministers. In his homilies from Christmas, Easter, and especially in his response to the tragic fire and deaths of 194 people at the nightclub Republica Cromañon, we see Bergoglio speak passionately to his parishioners, challenging them with equal portions of tenderness and righteous anger. Perhaps uniquely, we also watch as his audiences, prominence, and influence grow globally, foreshadowing who he will become in 2013 when he is elected Pope. On the larger national and international scale, Bergoglio addresses various conferences, such as the Argentina Press Association and the Episcopal Conference of Argentina of which he was elected President in 2005 and served the maximum possible term of six years. We see and read as his work takes him outside his country to Rome (2007) at the Pontifical Commission for Latin America; to Brasil (2007), where his presentation on the Crisis of Civilization and Culture at the Fifth CELAM Conference ends up shaping much of the Aparecida Conclusions; and finally, to Quebec (2008) as he speaks at the Forty-Ninth International Eucharistic Congress. All told, In Your Eyes I See My Words, Volume 2 is a glimpse into a period of time in which Archbishop Bergoglio grows immensely in thought, reflection, and action, laying the groundwork for the mature, thoughtful, and beloved Pope Francis he has come to be known as around the world.

Yoga is a holistic system of practices originating from ancient India, designed to promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. It encompasses a wide range of techniques and disciplines aimed at harmonizing the body, mind, and spirit. The word "yoga" itself means union or connection, reflecting its goal of integrating the individual consciousness with the universal consciousness. At its core, yoga emphasizes self-awareness, self-discovery, and self-realization. It offers a path for individuals to cultivate balance, inner peace, and optimal health in all dimensions of their being. While yoga is often associated with physical postures (asanas) and breath control techniques (pranayama), it also includes practices such as meditation, relaxation, ethical living, and self-inquiry. Yoga is adaptable and inclusive, catering to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Whether practiced for physical fitness, stress relief, spiritual growth, or a combination of these reasons, yoga offers something for everyone. It can be practiced individually or in group settings, in studios, gyms, parks, or even in the comfort of one's own home. Benefits of yoga practice may include increased flexibility, strength, and balance; reduced stress and anxiety; improved concentration and mental clarity; enhanced vitality and energy; and a greater sense of connection with oneself and others. While there are many different styles and approaches to yoga, ranging from gentle and restorative to dynamic and challenging, all share the common goal of fostering holistic well-being and self-transformation. Ultimately, yoga is not just a physical practice but a journey of self-discovery and inner growth, leading to greater harmony, peace, and fulfillment in life.

The Shape of the Church

The Shape of the Church PDF Author: Ephrem Arcement
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 175

Book Description
This is a book to help further the ecumenical cause. By providing a new paradigm for growth in ecclesial wholeness, The Shape of the Church charts a pathway that is at once biblically and theologically grounded and pastorally applicable. Seven interdependent dimensions are identified (evangelical, pentecostal, sacramental, intellectual, mystical, pastoral, prophetic) which constitute the church's wholeness and safeguard its integrity. Throughout church history, these seven dimensions have struggled to maintain a life-giving balance and have often isolated themselves from one another, distorting the church's catholicity and wholeness. Reform movements have repeatedly arisen to help revive dimensions being neglected but have often over-emphasized these dimensions to the neglect of others and further distorted the church's shape. The Shape of the Church seeks to offer a vision of the church that values the full dimensionality of the church and insists upon the giftedness of all its dimensions, arguing that the path forward to greater ecclesial maturity and wholeness is only through the nurturing and integration of all its seven dimensions.
