El programa, objeto de este libro, está dirigido principalmente a todos los profesionales de las actividades físicas y el deporte (profesores, instructores, monitores, animadores); tanto a los que trabajan actualmente como a los que pretendan empezar a trabajar con niños y adolescentes, ya sea en el ámbito escolar (primaria y secundaria, pudiéndose introducir en el currículum común y variable) como en el extraescolar (gimnasios, centros deportivos, escuelas deportivas escolares organizadas por asociaciones de madres y padres dentro de los colegios e institutos). El libro está dividido en tres partes o capítulos: En el primer capítulo, los autores exponen de forma resumida la evolución física y psicológica de los niños y adolescentes, analizando algunos de los factores que pueden incidir en dicho desarrollo, como son la nutrición y la actividad física. Citan diferentes experiencias y teorías de especialistas de todo el mundo, en cuanto a la aplicación de programas de actividades físicas y/o fitness y los ejercicios más adecuados a estas edades. En el segundo capítulo, es donde presentan el programa diver-fit, creado en base a la teoría y la experiencia acumulada por los autores en la práctica diaria, realizada con niños y adolescentes. Las sesiones están construidas con una mezcla de ejercicios sencillos y complejos, ajustados a las posibilidades motrices reales de los alumnos. Estas sesiones, al trabajar por niveles, pueden ser seguidas por la gran mayoría de niños y adolescentes. El tercer capítulo está destinado a la competición, puesto que los niños a estas edades son muy competitivos y, a veces, se hace necesario aplicarla como un medio de motivación. Los autores hacen una reflexión sobre las ventajas e inconvenientes de aplicarla y explican cómo la incluyen en el programa diver-fit. Exponen también, pero sólo para púberes y adolescentes, aquellos sistemas y métodos de entrenamiento más idóneos para estas edades, que pueden servir para mejorar su condición física general, pero evitando caer en la especialización precoz. Este libro pretende ser, sobre todo, una herramienta de trabajo para todo profesional que sienta la inquietud de experimentar diferentes métodos de trabajo dentro de las actividades físicas para niños y adolescentes. Y, pretende servir, también, como una referencia bibliográfica para aquellos que se sientan con ánimos de crear nuevos programas o propuestas que ayuden a enriquecer el campo de las actividades físicas para niños y adolescentes.
