Book Description
Contemplative, down-to-earth, and abiding, Manoj moves away from his village when he is still a child. But then comes the trouble and the dilemma. He falters, he rises, he admires, he smiles, he fails, and witnesses events that scar him for a lifetime. He is tossed between different people and different ideologies. His conscience fails him as he moves between cities, struggles to earn his daily bread, and makes choices that push him to the extreme and define him forever. This extremely relevant coming-of-age novel is a representation of the emotional state of so many young people in their teens and their twenties. It has a lucid narrative, and yet contains embedded bits of a complex layered commentary on human psychology. Distraught brings forth a story from the times when a lot of Indians had started moving out from their homes to study in different cities, and how they struggled to keep their identity intact. Many made through it, and many succumbed to the ever growing emotional and social burden, and a consequential conflict with their own values. Read this wonderfully promising debut novel and delve deeper into the mind of the narrator. Flip its pages, accompany Manoj on his journey and ask yourself: What would you do, where you in his place?

WALHALLAPLAN
Author: Frank Luger
Publisher: Lulu.com
ISBN: 1387553429
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 292
Book Description
This is a pseudoplay (the kind meant to be read, not seen on stage or screen) about the nature of Evil. The play begins with the real-live crucifixion of the main protagonist on Mount Zion in present-day Jerusalem and continues with five flashbacks in five Acts, examining Evil by means of the thoughts, actions and personality clashes of the various characters. The plot intensifies throughout the Acts, first with a crescendo at the end of Act One, then with another at the end of Act Three, and then with a final crescendo at the end of Act Five. The climax leads directly to the crucifixion scene in the Prologue. Finally, a resolution of the main problem is provided in the Epilogue, and it is shown how Evil may be harnessed and made to serve Good. The play thus ends on a note of hope and cautious optimism but without underestimating the power of Evil. It was written in December 1986, completed in March, 1987, and published for the first time in August, 2007, for the second in January, 2018.

Bubble Reputation
Author: Cathie Pelletier
Publisher: Sourcebooks, Inc.
ISBN: 1402294956
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 290
Book Description
Rosemary O'Neal lived for eight years with William, in a rambling country house in Maine. Then William committed suicide on a trip to London, leaving her with questions, anger, and no way to say goodbye. When her zany family descends on the house, bringing a tidal wave of casseroles and their own petty problems, Rosemary retreats with her cat from the chaos of the world around them. (Her cat understands human nature better than Homo sapiens anyway.) It takes an unsettling turn of events to shock her back into the pitfalls of living and realize that life is a fleeting experience to be carefully savored. Award-winning author Cathie Pelletier has been called "a bitingly funny, highly original novelist". In The Bubble Reputation, she redefines "dysfunctional" in this bittersweet, life-affirming story about the idiosyncrasies of family, the anguish of grief, and finding peace after chaos.

The Resilience Handbook
Author: Martha Kent
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136484248
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 484
Book Description
How are people and communities able to prevail despite challenge? What helps them bounce back from adversity and even grow in knowledge and understanding? And can this resilience be taught? During the past decade, exciting scientific advances have shed light on how resilience operates from neurons to neighborhoods. In The Resilience Handbook, experts in the science of resilience draw on human and animal research to describe the process of resilience and follow its course as it unfolds both within individuals and in social networks. Contributors also highlight the promise of new interventions that apply what we know about resilience processes to bolster positive health, and raise some of the pressing questions and issues for the field as it matures. This handbook is designed to be used by students as an invitation to a burgeoning field; by researchers, as a framework for advancing theories, hypotheses, and empirical tests of resilience functions; and by clinicians, as a comprehensive and up-to-the-minute integration of theory and practice.
