In light of the power strategies in play in the new geopolitics of economic and ecological globalization, there is need for critical analysis of how the agenda of sustainable development is being conceived, shaped, and implemented. This volume considers issues of equity and development in the US-Mexico border region?and highlights the fact that regions at the juncture of the industrial and developing worlds most clearly illustrate the problems inherent in current economic paradigms. Jane Clough-Riquelme is a regional planner with the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). "Transboundary Policy Challenges" responds to a growing interest in borderlands environmental policy by highlighting significant transboundary research and practices being undertaken within and across the Pacific border regions of North America. Growing concern about the seriousness of environmental problems, particularly in high-growth border areas, coupled with the rising awareness of the complexities entailed in wise development decisions, has spurred recognition that new realities require new responses. Critical for effective environmental protection, restoration, and education is a sharing of understanding and effort across borders. 2 RESEARCH OBJECTIVES This project sought to improve community access to environmental data for the Tijuana River Watershed, thereby contributing to greater awareness of the characteristics of the basin and the nature and causes of its environmental problems. [...] The introduction contains background information about the CD project, an explanation of menus and buttons for navigating through the CD, and an overview of the modules. [...] It includes sections on the components of a watershed and explanations of the functioning of a watershed approach in understanding the geography of an area. [...] Module 2, Exploring the Tijuana River Watershed, enables the user to examine the major sub-basins that comprise the TRW and the physical and human dimensions of the watershed. [...] The data folder from SDSU is composed of the TRW Explorer apr., which is a customized ArcView project made specifically for the Explorer, object database files that compose the structure of the four modules of the TRW Explorer, and the GIS Data used in the object database files.
