While there has always been an interest in the relationship between cancer and factors such as diet, alcohol, smoking, and occupational exposure, recently there has been an increased interest in passive smoking, intervention, screening, and the role of virus in the etiology of the disease. This volume compiles the most current information on research projects in the field of cancer epidemiology. The 1988 edition, which is the thirteenth in the series, contains abstracts of approximately 1240 projects carried out in more than 80 countries. Although the United States and the United Kingdom account for most of the research, contributions from other countries have increased dramatically. The volume reflects the fact that while there has always been an interest in the relationship between cancer and factors such as diet, alcohol, smoking, and occupational exposure, recently there has been an increased interest in passive smoking, intervention, screening, and the role of virus in the etiology of the disease.
