Book Description
Excerpt from The Diffusion of Gases Through Liquids and Allied Experiments The experiments in Chapter I, made during a period of eleven years, with an ordinary glass balloon - shaped Cartesian diver with a small aperture, culminated in a plausible value of the diffusion coefficient (i. E., grams of gas or standard volume of gas transpiring per second across an orthogonal square centimeter, in case of a unit pressure gradient) of the imprisoned air through water, together with suggestive relations of the mean viscosity of the imaginary medium within the molecular pores of the liquid through which a single molecule of the gas virtually transpires. The investigation was therefore taken up on a more extended scale, for different pairs of gases. In Chapter II the diver is modified in form and the endeavor is made to obtain equal areas in the section of the cylindrical swimmer and the annular space without, in order to conform more closely to the equation of diffusion. The theory of the phenomenon and the errors involved are discussed. It appears that. Even for mixed gases, the volumes diffusing (if not the masses) are fully determinable. The accuracy essentially depends on the measure ment of absolute temperature and of barometric pressure and should there fore be of an order below I 27 30 per C. Or per centimeter of mercury. As the masses of gas contained are as a rule much less than 10 - 2 gram, even in case of air, the weight less than gram is determinable, showing the remarkable sensitiveness of the method. Moreover, in the region of constant temperature, the limit of sensitiveness is immensely greater. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9811589607
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 135

Book Description
This book covers the fundamental aspects of the electrochemistry and redox enzymes that underlie enzymatic bioelectrocatalysis, in which a redox enzyme reaction is coupled with an electrode reaction. Described here are the basic concept and theoretical aspects of bioelectrocatalysis and the various experimental techniques and materials used to study and characterize related problems. Also included are the various applications of bioelectrocatalysis to bioelectrochemical devices including biosensors, biofuel cells, and bioreactors. This book is a unique source of information in the area of enzymatic bioelectrocatalysis, approaching the subject from a cross-disciplinary point of view.

Chemistry 2e

Chemistry 2e PDF Author: Paul Flowers
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781947172623
Category : Chemistry
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Chemistry 2e is designed to meet the scope and sequence requirements of the two-semester general chemistry course. The textbook provides an important opportunity for students to learn the core concepts of chemistry and understand how those concepts apply to their lives and the world around them. The book also includes a number of innovative features, including interactive exercises and real-world applications, designed to enhance student learning. The second edition has been revised to incorporate clearer, more current, and more dynamic explanations, while maintaining the same organization as the first edition. Substantial improvements have been made in the figures, illustrations, and example exercises that support the text narrative. Changes made in Chemistry 2e are described in the preface to help instructors transition to the second edition.

Diffusion in Gases, Liquids and Electrolytes

Diffusion in Gases, Liquids and Electrolytes PDF Author: Jochen Winkelmann
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9783662540886
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1191

Book Description
This volume contains data on diffusion in liquid mixtures. Diffusion processes are widespread phenomena in nature, of which mass diffusion is the most important one, in particular in liquids. The corresponding diffusion coefficients strongly depend on concentration, temperature, pressure and density. Contrary to the measurement of viscosity or heat transfer, where a few well developed experimental methods exist, we find a wide spectrum of different methods for measuring mass diffusion coefficients ranging from NMR spectroscopy, scattering, holography, interferometry, chromatography, diffusion through diaphragm and in capillary systems, and electroanalytical methods. After an introduction about the selection and normalization of data, in its first part this volume presents the most important measurement methods, followed by a second part on diffusion coefficient data depending on the various parameters.

Clinical Physiology in Anesthetic Practice

Clinical Physiology in Anesthetic Practice PDF Author: Michael G. Levitzky
Publisher: McGraw Hill Professional
ISBN: 1259641961
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 317

Book Description
A clinically relevant, reader -friendly text covering everything the anesthesia provider must know about physiologyThis well-illustrated new resource is the most concise and high-yield presentation of physiology topics available to the anesthesia provider. The authors (who are both educators and clinicians) deliver a complete overview of physiology, but, since this book is written for the anesthesia provider, the bulk of the text is dedicated to cardiovascular and respiratory physiology. Clinical Physiology in Anesthetic Practice distinguishes itself from general medical physiology books by the inclusion of case studies and clinical correlation boxed inserts that emphasize key fact that relate to real-world practice. •Numerous case studies demonstrate the clinical relevance of basic science•The author are experienced educators and clinicians, and know how to present difficult concepts in the most interesting and reader-friendly manner possible•Key Points summarize must-know information, providing an excellent framework for board review
