Diagram Genus, Generators, and Applications

Diagram Genus, Generators, and Applications PDF Author: Alexander Stoimenow
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1315362198
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 192

Book Description
In knot theory, diagrams of a given canonical genus can be described by means of a finite number of patterns ("generators"). Diagram Genus, Generators and Applications presents a self-contained account of the canonical genus: the genus of knot diagrams. The author explores recent research on the combinatorial theory of knots and supplies proofs for a number of theorems. The book begins with an introduction to the origin of knot tables and the background details, including diagrams, surfaces, and invariants. It then derives a new description of generators using Hirasawa’s algorithm and extends this description to push the compilation of knot generators one genus further to complete their classification for genus 4. Subsequent chapters cover applications of the genus 4 classification, including the braid index, polynomial invariants, hyperbolic volume, and Vassiliev invariants. The final chapter presents further research related to generators, which helps readers see applications of generators in a broader context.

Noncommutative Deformation Theory

Noncommutative Deformation Theory PDF Author: Eivind Eriksen
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1498796028
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 242

Book Description
Noncommutative Deformation Theory is aimed at mathematicians and physicists studying the local structure of moduli spaces in algebraic geometry. This book introduces a general theory of noncommutative deformations, with applications to the study of moduli spaces of representations of associative algebras and to quantum theory in physics. An essential part of this theory is the study of obstructions of liftings of representations using generalised (matric) Massey products. Suitable for researchers in algebraic geometry and mathematical physics interested in the workings of noncommutative algebraic geometry, it may also be useful for advanced graduate students in these fields.

Mathematical Modelling of Waves in Multi-Scale Structured Media

Mathematical Modelling of Waves in Multi-Scale Structured Media PDF Author: Alexander B. Movchan
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1498782108
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 248

Book Description
Mathematical Modelling of Waves in Multi-Scale Structured Media presents novel analytical and numerical models of waves in structured elastic media, with emphasis on the asymptotic analysis of phenomena such as dynamic anisotropy, localisation, filtering and polarisation as well as on the modelling of photonic, phononic, and platonic crystals.

Spectral and Scattering Theory for Second Order Partial Differential Operators

Spectral and Scattering Theory for Second Order Partial Differential Operators PDF Author: Kiyoshi Mochizuki
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351648942
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 131

Book Description
The book is intended for students of graduate and postgraduate level, researchers in mathematical sciences as well as those who want to apply the spectral theory of second order differential operators in exterior domains to their own field. In the first half of this book, the classical results of spectral and scattering theory: the selfadjointness, essential spectrum, absolute continuity of the continuous spectrum, spectral representations, short-range and long-range scattering are summarized. In the second half, recent results: scattering of Schrodinger operators on a star graph, uniform resolvent estimates, smoothing properties and Strichartz estimates, and some applications are discussed.

Willmore Energy and Willmore Conjecture

Willmore Energy and Willmore Conjecture PDF Author: Magdalena D. Toda
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1498744648
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 157

Book Description
This book is the first monograph dedicated entirely to Willmore energy and Willmore surfaces as contemporary topics in differential geometry. While it focuses on Willmore energy and related conjectures, it also sits at the intersection between integrable systems, harmonic maps, Lie groups, calculus of variations, geometric analysis and applied differential geometry. Rather than reproducing published results, it presents new directions, developments and open problems. It addresses questions like: What is new in Willmore theory? Are there any new Willmore conjectures and open problems? What are the contemporary applications of Willmore surfaces? As well as mathematicians and physicists, this book is a useful tool for postdoctoral researchers and advanced graduate students working in this area.

Analytical Methods for Kolmogorov Equations

Analytical Methods for Kolmogorov Equations PDF Author: Luca Lorenzi
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1315355620
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 572

Book Description
The second edition of this book has a new title that more accurately reflects the table of contents. Over the past few years, many new results have been proven in the field of partial differential equations. This edition takes those new results into account, in particular the study of nonautonomous operators with unbounded coefficients, which has received great attention. Additionally, this edition is the first to use a unified approach to contain the new results in a singular place.

Pages : 494

Book Description
Submanifolds and Holonomy, Second Edition explores recent progress in the submanifold geometry of space forms, including new methods based on the holonomy of the normal connection. This second edition reflects many developments that have occurred since the publication of its popular predecessor.New to the Second EditionNew chapter on normal holonom

Stochastic Cauchy Problems in Infinite Dimensions

Stochastic Cauchy Problems in Infinite Dimensions PDF Author: Irina V. Melnikova
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1315360268
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 281

Book Description
Stochastic Cauchy Problems in Infinite Dimensions: Generalized and Regularized Solutions presents stochastic differential equations for random processes with values in Hilbert spaces. Accessible to non-specialists, the book explores how modern semi-group and distribution methods relate to the methods of infinite-dimensional stochastic analysis. It also shows how the idea of regularization in a broad sense pervades all these methods and is useful for numerical realization and applications of the theory. The book presents generalized solutions to the Cauchy problem in its initial form with white noise processes in spaces of distributions. It also covers the "classical" approach to stochastic problems involving the solution of corresponding integral equations. The first part of the text gives a self-contained introduction to modern semi-group and abstract distribution methods for solving the homogeneous (deterministic) Cauchy problem. In the second part, the author solves stochastic problems using semi-group and distribution methods as well as the methods of infinite-dimensional stochastic analysis.

Optimization and Differentiation

Optimization and Differentiation PDF Author: Simon Serovajsky

Book Description
Optimization and Differentiation is an introduction to the application of optimization control theory to systems described by nonlinear partial differential equations. As well as offering a useful reference work for researchers in these fields, it is also suitable for graduate students of optimal control theory.

The Truth Value Algebra of Type-2 Fuzzy Sets

The Truth Value Algebra of Type-2 Fuzzy Sets PDF Author: John Harding

Type-2 fuzzy sets extend both ordinary and interval-valued fuzzy sets to allow distributions, rather than single values, as degrees of membership. Computations with these truth values are governed by the truth value algebra of type-2 fuzzy sets. The Truth Value Algebra of Type-2 Fuzzy Sets: Order Convolutions of Functions on the Unit Interval explo
