Book Description
Abstract: Commercial truck drivers are at a considerable disadvantage when it comes to healthy eating and exercise while at work and during downtime. Consequently, truck drivers face high rates of obesity and cardiovascular disease risk factors. The purpose of this project was to develop a nutrition curriculum in the form of a workbook for local, regional, and over-the-road (OTR) truck drivers to be used as a stand-alone resource or as part of a workplace health promotion program. The goal of this workbook is to provide information on general nutrition and healthy eating patterns, nutrition for disease prevention, estimating nutrition needs, food purchasing, safety, and meal preparation, physical activity, and goal setting, all tailored to the needs of truck drivers. Curriculum development was based on a literature review on the health status of truck drivers and topics identified in an evidenced-based workplace health promotion program assessment tool. This workbook was reviewed for alignment with current evidence and relevancy by a professional committee, including two Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) who work in health promotion, and one truck driver. This workbook is one resource that truck drivers can use to improve their nutrition knowledge and health behaviors if motivated to do so. Future work could include the development of a web or app-based nutrition program for truck drivers to focus on knowledge or research to improve the food choice environment at truck stops.

Though overall cancer incidence and mortality have continued to decline in recent years, cancer continues to devastate the lives of far too many Americans. In 2009 alone, 1.5 million American men, women, and children were diagnosed with cancer, and 562,000 died from the disease. There is a growing body of evidence linking environmental exposures to cancer. The Pres. The Panel considered industrial, occupational, and agricultural exposures as well as exposures related to medical practice, military activities, modern lifestyles, and natural sources. Togo

Togo PDF Author: International Monetary Fund. African Dept.
Publisher: International Monetary Fund
ISBN: 1498332404
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 201

Book Description
This Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper highlights that Togo’s Strategy for Boosting Growth and Promoting Employment offers a medium-term development framework for implementing the Government’s General Policy Statement, the Millennium Development Goals, and the Government’s vision for making Togo an emerging economy in 15 to 20 years, as well as making it a country that respects human rights and promotes the rule of law. The return of political stability and peace to the country created a favorable environment for better governance, resumption of international assistance, and significant reduction in exterior public debt. The Government’s medium-term economic policy for 2013–2017 will essentially be used to build and consolidate the foundations for Togo’s future economic emergence. The focus will be on new priorities: boosting growth; employment and inclusion; strengthening governance; and reducing regional disparities and promoting grassroots development. Designing a national land-use plan will territorialize development by creating a more balanced national economic space. The new land-use scheme will be based on dynamic, competitive, regional economies in which the urbanization of regional capitals and secondary towns is sufficiently controlled to allow true development hubs to emerge.
