Book Description
The program objective was to advance the state of the art of high power Ku-band amplifier tubes by increasing instantaneous bandwidth and raising the frequency of operation. A coupled cavity, solenoid focused, modulating anode controlled traveling-wave amplifier was designed and an experimental model was fabricated, tested, and delivered. Three hundred (300) watts minimum and up to 1170 watts of CW power output was measured over a 2 GHz bandwidth at Ku-band. The technical soundess was thus demonstrated with an overall efficiency of greater than 24% over a substantial portion of the band. Recommendations were made for improvements in the design to increase power output and consequently gain and efficiency over the lowest 300 MHz in the band. (Author).

Development Z-5161 100 Watt Cw X-band Twt

Development Z-5161 100 Watt Cw X-band Twt PDF Author: John L. Putz

Book Description
Research was completed on the development of a broadband traveling-wave amplifier capable of operating over the frequency range 7500 to 11300 mc with a power output of 100 watts cw, and 20 db minimum gain. This tube, the Z-5161, is of metalceramic construction, and is focused by a permanent magnet. The Z-5161 uses a novel multiplehelix structure as the slow-wave circuit. This circuit has not only solved the problem of power handling capability, which limited power output of previous tubes, but also resulted in a shorter, more rugged tube. The properties of this circuit are described in detail, and curves useful for design are presented. The design and construction of the Z-5161 ws. The permanent magnet used for focusing is also described. Test results for several tubes are discussed. These results show that a broadband 100 watt cw X-band travelingwave amplifier is practical, and that some further increase in power level may be possible. (Author).

Study of a 100-Watt Ku-Band Traveling Wave Tube

Study of a 100-Watt Ku-Band Traveling Wave Tube PDF Author: A. Scott
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 38

Book Description
The development of a 100-watt, cw, PPM-focused, 12 to 18 GHz traveling wave tube is described. The design of the tube is described in detail. A helix, glazed to beryllia support rods, is used to obtain the 12-18 GHz bandwidth and 100-watt cw output power. Radially magnetized magnets are used for the PPM focusing structure. Two packaged versions of the tube (with air or heat-sink cooling) were developed. Performance data are presented on several tubes constructed during the development program. These data indicate the successful achievement of the original requirements. Recommendations are made for future work. (Author).

Languages : en
Pages : 158

Book Description
A 12.5-kW, 7.7 to 8.4 GHz traveling-wave tube and its associated operating equipment has been developed. This traveling-wave tube operates at a power level of 12.5-kW CW with minimum efficiency of 35 percent. The demonstrated life of this device is in excess of 2,000 hours. This report describes in detail the electrical and mechanical properties of the traveling-wave tube and its associated console. A chronological summary of the development program and a discussion of each of the major problems encountered is given. Recommendations for future work in this general area are included. (Author).
