Abstract: The Extension system throughout the United States is a unique network of educational processes based on collective research of the land-grant university system. Extension serves as the outreach arm of the land-grant university system and brings the research and education of the university to the people of the state. County Extension administrators (commonly known as county chairs) are continuously working with a diverse and complex set of personalities and backgrounds among the staff of the local county Extension office. As the Ohio State University Extension system continues to undergo tremendous changes, the satisfaction and productivity of its clientele also faces similar challenges. County chairs must apply a continuous and dedicated effort to be emotionally, mentally and physically prepared to meet the needs and demands of staff members. Therefore, the competency and sensitivity of county chairs has become increasingly important for successful Extension leadership and work. The researcher investigated the relationship between the level of emotional intelligence of county chairs and the job satisfaction of county Extension staff. The descriptive-correlational study utilized a census of Ohio State University Extensioncounty chairs and a random sample of county Extension staff throughout the State of Ohio. Data were collected utilizing Bar-On's Emotional Intelligence Quotient instrument (county chairs) and Warner's job satisfaction instrument (county employees). The study examined the relationships between emotional intelligence of county chairs, job satisfaction of county staff and demographics of: appointment, main program area, location, length of employment with Extension, gender, race/ethnicity and previous management experience. Stepwise linear regression analysis was used to measure the proportion of variance in county staff's job satisfaction that could be explained by emotional intelligence (county chairs) and demographic characteristics. The findings suggested there is not a significant relationship between emotional intelligence of county chairs and the job satisfaction of county staff. Gender and level of highest education completed had low relationships to job satisfaction. Appointment, main program area, race/ethnicity and previous management experience did not effect the level of job satisfaction. Based on the findings, the researcher concluded that the level of job satisfaction of Ohio State University Extension county staff is not influenced by the level of emotional intelligence of county chairs. Some correlations existed between job satisfaction and the selected demographic characteristics.

Emotional Intelligence is an important factor for teacher's success. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of Emotional Intelligence on Job Satisfaction among the academicians in Technical higher education institutions. In the past, when studying organizational behavior, emotions and EQ were not given serious attention, especially on their contribution towards creativity and productivity. In the same light, limited attempts were also made in investigating the effect of EQ on work attitude and behavior such as job satisfaction and job commitment. In aspects of gender and age females, by handling multiple responsibilities are comparatively more prone to high stress & an unbalanced lifestyle. The EQ level of females with special focus on age & marital status. In male are less stresses but unbalanced lifestyle. Findings suggest that Emotional Intelligence did not affect the level of Job Satisfaction. Gender did not have a significant effect on Emotional Intelligence or Job Satisfaction. Older employees had higher levels of Emotional Intelligence; however, age had no effect on reported Job Satisfaction. Gender did not have a moderating effect in Emotional Intelligence-Job Satisfaction relationship. Age had mixed findings. For the younger generation, the relationship was significantly positive. For the older generation, it was insignificant and negative. Results should be approached with caution. Limitations and future research directions are provided in the article. Data collection is done on the basis of convenience sampling technique. Researchers have acknowledged that job satisfaction is a phenomenon which can be explained as having both cognitive and affective character. The cognitive component is made up of judgments and beliefs about the job, while the affective component comprises of feelings and emotions associated with the job. Job satisfaction is defined as the attitude and feelings people have about their work: positive and favorable attitudes towards the job indicate job satisfaction while negative and unfavorable attitudes toward the job indicate job dissatisfaction. Researchers have acknowledged that job satisfaction is a phenomenon which can be explained as having both cognitive and affective character. The cognitive component is made up of judgments and beliefs about the job, while the affective component comprises of feelings and emotions associated with the job. As a county agent’s job becomes faster paced, with higher demands, the need for emotional intelligence also increases. Mayer and Salovey (1997) pointed out that emotional intelligence is the ability to perceive, access, understand, and regulate emotions in order to promote growth. Measuring the emotional intelligence of agents has the potential to impact professional development programs used to train agents. Further, emotional intelligence research can be used to impact curriculum in higher education. This study’s data identified that Emotional Reasoning ranked as the highest sub-categories, while Emotional Self-Control (ESC) ranked the lowest. When evaluating correlations between demographics and emotional intelligence, males, in this study, had a higher Emotional Self Control (ESC) than women. Education level revealed a statistical significance in general by finding that agents with more education had higher emotional intelligence scores. Emotional Self-Management (ESM) showed to be the highest ranked EI sub-category among the seven EI sub-categories, in correlating with demographics. Spending more time and resources on the development of emotional intelligence in agents through means of continuing education, can potentially show effectiveness for AgriLife as they move forward in educating the public.

This research investigated the relationship between organizational citizenship behaviors, emotional intelligence, and job satisfaction. The purpose of the study was to gain a greater understanding of the antecedents of organizational citizenship behavior. Subjects were 71 employees of three golf and country clubs located in the southeastern part of the United States. The participants were given five surveys to complete. Correlation analyses and a multiple regression analysis were conducted on the data. The results indicated that cognitive job satisfaction was significantly correlated with organizational citizenship behaviors and that emotional intelligence was significantly correlated with the altruism dimension of organizational citizenship behaviors. The results also showed that emotional intelligence did not moderate the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior. Exploratory analyses revealed that emotional intelligence did add unique variance to organizational citizenship behaviors above and beyond personality traits. Implications of the findings and future research are discussed.
