Design Sensitivity Analysis and Optimization of Constrained Dynamic Systems

Design Sensitivity Analysis and Optimization of Constrained Dynamic Systems PDF Author: N. C. Barman

Book Description
In this report, the technical objective is the derivation of a systematic and unified theory and organization of a corresponding general computer program for the design of constrained dynamic systems by judicious selection of the most suitable methods from the following branches of mathematics and mechanics: (a) Optimization Methods, (b) Rigid Body Mechanics, (c) Numerical Integration Methods, and (d) Matrix Manipulation Methods. Accordingly, a method of formulating and automatically integrating the equations of motion and design sensitivity adjoint equations for general constrained dynamic systems is presented. Design sensitivity analysis is carried out using a state-space method that has previously been used for design optimization of linear structural systems. Application of efficient sparse matrix computational methods is shown to be suitable for both dynamic and design sensitivity analyses and for interactive strained system is treated with three degrees of freedom. Algebraic equations prescribing constraints between various bodies are then written and a Lagrangian formulation is used to write the dynamical equations of motion for each body of the system. A stiff predictor-corrector numerical integration (GEAR) algorithm is used for numerical integration of mixed systems of nonlinear differential equations of motion and algebraic equations of constraint (together with spring-damper relations and other user-supplied equations).

Structural Sensitivity Analysis and Optimization 1

Structural Sensitivity Analysis and Optimization 1 PDF Author: Kyung K. Choi
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387271694
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 457

Book Description
Extensive numerical methods for computing design sensitivity are included in the text for practical application and software development. The numerical method allows integration of CAD-FEA-DSA software tools, so that design optimization can be carried out using CAD geometric models instead of FEA models. This capability allows integration of CAD-CAE-CAM so that optimized designs can be manufactured effectively.

Dynamic Analysis and Design of Constrained Mechanical Systems

Pages : 57

Book Description
A method for formulating and automatically integrating the equations of motion of quite general constrained dynamic systems is presented. Design sensitivity analysis is also carried out using a state space method that has been used extensively in structural design optimization. Both dynamic analysis and design sensitivity analysis and optimization are shown to be well-suited to application of efficient sparse matrix computational methods. Numerical integration is carried out using a stiff numerical integration method that treats mixed systems of differential and algebraic equations. A computer code that implements the method of planar systems is outlined and a numerical example is treated. The dynamic response of a classical slider-crank is analyzed and its design is optimized. Structural Dynamic Systems Computational Techniques and Optimization

Structural Dynamic Systems Computational Techniques and Optimization PDF Author: Cornelius T. Leondes
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9789056996444
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 284

Book Description
Formulation of an optimal dynamic structural system design problem requires identification of design variables that describe the structural system, a cost function that needs to be minimized, and performance and safety constraints for the system. The formulation of the problem depends upon the type of application and objectives to be achieved, i.e., the shape, the sizing, or topology design problem. Specific design variable definition, cost of function and constraints are dictated by the application. This volume is a comprehensive treatment of the general methods involved in this broadly fundamental problem and provides essential techniques in specific but pervasive structural dynamic systems elements and their optimization.

Numerical Methods in Sensitivity Analysis and Shape Optimization

Numerical Methods in Sensitivity Analysis and Shape Optimization PDF Author: Emmanuel Laporte
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461200695
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 202

Book Description
Sensitivity analysis and optimal shape design are key issues in engineering that have been affected by advances in numerical tools currently available. This book, and its supplementary online files, presents basic optimization techniques that can be used to compute the sensitivity of a given design to local change, or to improve its performance by local optimization of these data. The relevance and scope of these techniques have improved dramatically in recent years because of progress in discretization strategies, optimization algorithms, automatic differentiation, software availability, and the power of personal computers. Numerical Methods in Sensitivity Analysis and Shape Optimization will be of interest to graduate students involved in mathematical modeling and simulation, as well as engineers and researchers in applied mathematics looking for an up-to-date introduction to optimization techniques, sensitivity analysis, and optimal design.
