Building Scientific Apparatus
Author: John H. Moore
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1139478656
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 649
Book Description
Unrivalled in its coverage and unique in its hands-on approach, this guide to the design and construction of scientific apparatus is essential reading for every scientist and student of engineering, and physical, chemical, and biological sciences. Covering the physical principles governing the operation of the mechanical, optical and electronic parts of an instrument, new sections on detectors, low-temperature measurements, high-pressure apparatus, and updated engineering specifications, as well as 400 figures and tables, have been added to this edition. Data on the properties of materials and components used by manufacturers are included. Mechanical, optical, and electronic construction techniques carried out in the lab, as well as those let out to specialized shops, are also described. Step-by-step instruction supported by many detailed figures, is given for laboratory skills such as soldering electrical components, glassblowing, brazing, and polishing.

Fabry-Perot Interferometers
Author: G. Hernandez
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521368124
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 364
Book Description
This book describes the Fabry-Perot interferometer and its variants as well as its use, optimisation and applications. The author begins with an historical perspective on the development of the instrument. Because of the quantitative uses of the device, the text tends to be mostly mathematical in its treatment. However, there is also much practical detail on the use and optimization of the Fabry-Perot interferometer and discussion of its classical uses (such as in metrology) and its contemporary applications (such as in lasers). In addition the book contains a comprehensive bibliography summarizing the extensive literature on the subject. This book will appeal both to high-resolution practitioners, such as spectroscopists, and to the laser community, since the Fabrv-Perot is not only an integral part of the laser but is also usea to characterize its optical and spectroscopic behaviour.

Far Infrared Fabry-Perot Interferometer
Author: Cedric J. Gabriel

Languages : en
Pages : 33
Book Description
Descriptions are given of the construction of a Fabry-Perot interferometer, the technique for stretching and aligning the grids, and measurements made using 400 and 1000 L.P.I. grids. Ulrich's lumped parameter theory of the optical properties of square-type grids is applied to the calculation of the Fabry-Perot characteristics of the instrument; good agreement is found if the divergence of the incident radiation is considered. Calculations of the transmittance of multigrid interference filters give only qualitative agreement with examples from the literature, as does also an attempt to extend Ulrich's theory for square-type grids to cross-type grids. (Author).
