Trees must not be planted any deeper than they have stood in the nursery; and, if the land is heavy or inclined to be wet, it is better to plant them still shallower. In good land that has been well plowed and harrowed it is a waste of time to dig very large holes. When the trees are set, if one-year-old stock, they should all be cut off to about twenty inches from the ground.
