The earliest known Boies ancestor, David (1689-1752), came from Ireland and settled in Blandford, Mass. in 1740. Descendants of David Boies (1794-1865), who was born in Beaver Co., Pennsylvania, and died in Washington, Iowa. He was married to Elizabeth (1802-1865), who was born in Pennsylvania. David was a farmer. They were parents of seven children born between 1826 and 1842 in Ohio. Samuel Boies (1835-1904), son of David and Elizabeth Boies, was born in Brighton, Ohio, and died in New Castle, Colorado. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Holman (1845-1908) in 1863. She was born in Kentucky. They were parents of eleven children born between 1865 and 1887 in Iowa and Colorado.

He married twice, possibly to Margaret Kennedy before 1711 and to Sarah Bell in Hopkinton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, 17 May 1733. John died before 30 July 1747 at Suffield, Massachusetts (later in 1749 Connecticut).
