Christian Sheybly (Shively) of Oberdorf, canton of Basel, Switzerland was born in 1683. He married Barbara Spitteler. He immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1736. His son, Christian (1719-1773), married Esther Neff in 1744. They moved to York Township, York County, Pennsylvania in 1764. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, and elsewhere.

He served with the Northampton County Miltia during the Revolutionary War. He married twice and was the father of eighteen children, born 1772-1805. The family moved from Berks County, Pennsylvania, to Tyrone Township, Cumberland County, now Perry County, Pennsylvania, in 1789. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
