À une époque où trop de voix exhortent à « rééduquer les parents démissionnaires » et à dépister les futurs délinquants en couches-culottes, où la « logique du marché » s’immisce dans les rapports humains jusque dans le domaine de la petite enfance, l’auteur témoigne de l’aventure de l’ACEPP (le réseau des crèches parentales), à travers l’histoire de son « secteur interculturel », pour montrer qu’il est possible de penser et d’agir autrement. Depuis vingt ans, l’ACEPP est à l’origine de la création de lieux d’accueil pour les enfants et leurs familles, dans le respect de leur diversité, au cœur des quartiers aujourd’hui montrés du doigt. Ces réalisations confirment le pari que la qualité de l’accueil dont bénéficie le jeune enfant peut conditionner l’insertion de ses parents dans la vie professionnelle mais aussi dans leur quartier, dans leur commune et plus généralement dans une réalité citoyenne. Marie-Laure Cadart est médecin et anthropologue. Elle a travaillé pendant de nombreuses années en Protection maternelle et infantile avant de se tourner vers la recherche et la formation professionnelle. Dans le cadre du SNMPMI (Syndicat national des médecins de protection maternelle et infantile), elle s’occupe plus particulièrement du dossier de l’accueil de la petite enfance. This book generates a comprehensive account of ways in which practice-based learning has been conceptualized in the Francophone context. Learning for occupations, and the educational and practice-based experiences supporting it are the subject of increased interest and attention globally. Governments, professional bodies, workplaces and workers are now looking for experiences that support the initial and ongoing development of occupational capacities. Consequently, more attention is being given to workplaces as sites for this learning. This focus on learning through work has long been emphasised in the Francophone world, which has developed distinct traditions and conceptions of associations between work and learning. These include ergonomics and professional didactics. Yet, whilst being accepted and of long standing in the Francophone world, these conceptions and traditions, and the practices supporting them are little known about or understood in the Anglophone world, which is the dominant medium for scientific and educational discussion. This book addresses this problem through drawing on accounts from France, Switzerland and Canada that make accessible and elaborate these traditions, conceptions and practices through examples of their applications to occupationally related learning. These accounts offer variations and culturally-specific developments of these traditions, but collectively emphasize a preoccupation with how both work and learning need to be understood through situated considerations of persons enacting their work practice. In this way, they offer noteworthy and worthwhile contributions to contemporary global considerations of learning through work.

Le 14 novembre 1844 est créée la première crèche, crèche de Chaillot, à Paris, sous l'impulsion de Firmin Marbeau. Crèche, par analogie avec la crèche de Bethléem. A partir de la constitution d'un corpus, l'ouvrage reconstruit un temps de l'histoire des crèches, de 1844 à 1870, période pouvant être définie comme celle de leur institutionnalisation. Celle-ci révèle un projet philanthropique qui se voudra aussi projet d'éducation populaire. Projet tout à la fois normatif et audacieux, au sein duquel une certaine représentation de l'enfant et le rapport social aux parents peuvent s'interpréter. Une utopie. Qui n'a jamais fait l'unanimité et a parfois déchaîné les passions. Un pari sur le petit enfant pauvre pour réformer les comportements parentaux et les moeurs populaires, et refonder le pacte social et politique dans un contexte socialement et politiquement agité. Dès lors, la tension fondatrice à l'origine des crèches émerge - promouvoir le travail des femmes en même temps que l'idéal de la mère éducatrice au foyer.
