Defense Contracts

Defense Contracts PDF Author: United States Government Accountability Office
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781977514370
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 26

Book Description
DOD purchases commercial items-generally defined as products and services readily available in the commercial marketplace-to meet many of its requirements. Relying on the commercial marketplace, when appropriate, enables DOD to take advantage of market innovations and reduce acquisition costs. Since 2013, Congress has enacted changes in the way DOD is to purchase commercial items. GAO was asked to review the acquisition of commercial items by DOD. This report describes (1) what federal procurement data indicate about trends in DOD's acquisition of commercial items; and (2) recent legislative changes in the National Defense Authorization Acts (NDAAs) from fiscal years 2013 to 2017 related to the procurement of commercial items and DOD's actions in response to this legislation. To obtain a longer term view, GAO analyzed data from FPDS-NG-the government's procurement database- for contracts awarded from fiscal years 2007 through 2016, reviewed applicable legislation and regulations, and interviewed DOD officials.

Defence Planning as Strategic Fact

Defence Planning as Strategic Fact PDF Author: Henrik Breitenbauch
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000732177
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 202

Book Description
Defence Planning as Strategic Fact provides and elaborates on an "upstream" focus on the variegated organizational, political and conceptual practices of military, civilian administrative and political leaderships involved in defence planning, offering an important security and strategic studies supplement to the traditional "downstream" focus on the use of force. The book enables the reader to engage with the role of ideas in defence planning, of organizational processes and biases, path dependencies and administrative dynamics under the pressures of continuously changing domestic and international constraints. The chapters show how defence planning must be seen as a constitutive element of defence and strategic studies – that it is a strategic fact of its own which merits particular practical and scholarly attention. As defence planning creates the conditions behind every peace upheld or broken and every war won or lost, Defence Planning as Strategic Fact will be of great use to scholars of defence studies, strategic studies, and military studies. This book was originally published as a special issue of Defence Studies.
