This volume collects previously unpublished contributions to the philosophy of science. Pragmática Lingüística y Diccionario Partiendo de los antecedentes históricos y las motivaciones que condujeron a la preocupación por el lenguaje, en el capítulo I se establecen los fundamentos teóricos y metodológicos (Pragmática Lingüística) para el análisis de la lengua del DRAE. Después de establecer los parámetros que atañen a la lengua del Diccionario, la autora analiza (capítulo II) algunos de los artículos más representativos del Diccionario académico, que funcionan como centros de interés en la medida en que son expresión de juicios sobre la sociedad. El objeto de los capítulos III y IV se centran en el estudio del significante léxico en relación con la aparición de nuevas palabras y la desaparición de otras, así como del significado léxico, en su doble vertiente de información gramatical y contenido léxico. Distinguimos en este apartado la definición en metalengua de contenido (definición propia) de la definición en metalengua de signo (definición impropia). Un grupo importante de entradas léxicas funcionan como palabras performativas, es decir, al usarlas se convierten en actos de habla. El último capítulo está dedicado al análisis de las formas complejas. On the basis of the historical precedents and motivations that led to the concern about the language, chapter I establishes the theoretical and methodological base (Linguistic Pragmatics) for the analysis of the language of the DRAE (Diccionario de la Real Academia Española). After having established the parameters concerning the language of the dictionary, the author analyses (chapter II) the most representative articles of the academic Dictionary, which works as the center of interest because they are an expression of judgments about the society. The object of chapters III and IV is the study of the appearance of new words and the disappearance of others, as well as of the lexical meaning and grammatical information of the same ones. We do the distinction between the definition in metalengua of the content (own definition) and the definition in metalengua of the sign (the improper definition). An important group of lexical entries function as performative words, which means that when we use them, they are changed into speech acts. The last chapter is dedicated to the analysis of set phrases or locutions.

The reactive scattering for H- + H2 and H+ + H2 and its isotopologues were investigated using different methods. The studies aimed at providing insights into elementary reactions, and go beyond these to more complexchemical reactions. By comparison of the reaction probabilities of H+ + H2 using adiabatic and non-adiabatic methods, it was found that, at low collision energies, the reaction preferentially occurs adiabatically, but at higher collision energies non-adiabatic effects should be taken into account. For H- + H2 and its isotopologues, we can see that, at low collision energies, the reaction probabilities and reaction cross section using SM-PES and AY-PES are very similar but different from PS-PES. The reaction cross sections investigated with quasi-classical trajectoriesare higher than those calculated with quantum wavepackets. For the collision H- and D- with HD, the main reaction path ways are different with the different collision energies.

A distinctive focus of 19th- and 20th-century Latin American philosophy is the convergence of identity formation and political liberation in ethnically and racially diverse postcolonial contexts. From this perspective, Omar Rivera interprets how a "we" is articulated and deployed in central political texts of this robust philosophical tradition. In particular, by turning to the work of Peruvian political theorist José Carlos Mariátegui among others, Rivera critiques philosophies of liberation that are invested in the redemption of oppressed identities as conditions for bringing about radical social and political change, foregrounding Latin America's complex histories and socialities to illustrate the power and shortcomings of these projects. Building on this critical approach, Rivera studies interrelated epistemological, transcultural, and aesthetic delimitations of Latin American philosophy in order to explore the possibility of social and political liberation "beyond redemption."

The personal is not political, even if politics marks it and, in many cases, determines it. Infrapolitics seeks to understand conditions of existence that are not reducible to political life and that exceed any definition of world bound to political determinations. It seeks to mobilize an exteriority without which politics could only be business or administration, that is, oppression. It demands a change in seeing and an everyday practice that subtracts from political totalization in the name of a new production of desire, of a new emancipation, and of a conception of experience that can breach the general captivation of life. In this book, Alberto Moreiras describes a form of thought aiming to provide content for a form of life and to offer a new theoretical practice for concrete existence. The book provides a genealogy of the notion of infrapolitics and places it within contemporary philosophical reflection, examining its deployment in the wake of postphenomenology and deconstruction, Lacanian analysis, the principle of anarchy, and an egalitarian symbolization of social life. Confirming his moniker as “America’s philosopher of democracy,” John Dewey engaged in a series of public debates over the course of his lifetime, vividly demonstrating how his thought translates into action. These debates made Dewey a household name and a renowned public intellectual during the early to mid-twentieth century, a time when the United States fought two World Wars, struggled through an economic depression, experienced explosive economic growth and spawned a grassroots movement that characterized an entire era: Progressivism. Unfortunately, much recent Dewey scholarship neglects to situate Dewey’s ideas in the broader context of his activities and engagements as a public intellectual. This project charts a path through two of Dewey’s actual debates with his contemporaries, Leon Trotsky and Robert Hutchins, to two reconstructed debates with contemporary intellectuals, E.D. Most accounts of the Spanish transition to democracy have been celebratory exercises at the service of a stabilizing rather than a critical project of far-reaching reform. As one of the essays in this volume puts it, the “pact of oblivion,” which characterized the Spanish transition to democracy, curtailed any serious attempt to address the legacies of authoritarianism that the new democracy inherited from the Franco era. As a result, those legacies pervaded public discourse even in newly created organs of opinion. As another contributor argues, the Transition was based on the erasure of memory and the invention of a new political tradition. On the other hand, memory and its etiolation have been an object of reflection for a number of film directors and fiction writers, who have probed the return of the repressed under spectral conditions. Above all, this book strives to present memory as a performative exercise of democratic agents and an open field for encounters with different, possibly divergent, and necessarily fragmented recollections. The pact of the Transition could not entirely disguise the naturalization of a society made of winners and losers, nor could it ensure the consolidation of amnesia by political agents and by the tools that create hegemony by shaping opinion. Spanish society is haunted by the specters of a past it has tried to surmount by denying it. It seems unlikely that it can rid itself of its ghosts without in the process undermining the democracy it sought to legitimate through the erasure of memories and the drowning of witnesses' voices in the cacaphony of triumphant modernization.
