Au cours des prochaines années, l'utilisation des systèmes informatiques répartis deviendra une des composantes essentielles de notre société. Le succès de leurs applications dépendra, étroitement, de la conception des systèmes de gestion des bases de données, réparties (SGBDR) en vue de leur bonne adaptation aux besoins des utilisateurs. C'est pourquoi les utilisateurs et les informaticiens doivent réfléchir, dès maintenant, aux problèmes que pose la conception de ces nouveaux systèmes. Le but de ce livre, actuellement unique en son genre en langue française, est d'aider les uns et les autres dans cette tâche. Il propose une analyse détaillée et progressive, en vue d'identifier les problèmes et de choisir les solutions, qui jalonnent le processus de la conception d'un SGBDR. Il permet de comprendre les principes de base de ces systèmes, et d'en connaître, précisément et complètement, les possibilités fonctionnelles. Les activités liées à la veille technologique sont traditionnellement centrées sur la notion de validation de l'information par expertise. Jusqu'à présent aucun système d'information n'assure (ni n'assiste) l'analyse critique et qualitative de l'information qu'il stocke. La plupart des systèmes d'information actuels stockent des données (I) dont la source est généralement unique, non connue ou non identifiée/authentifiée et (2) dont k qualité est inégale et/ou ignorée. Après avoir analysé le vaste panorama des travaux de recherche dont les problématiques présentent des analogies avec la problématique de la veille, l'objectif était de proposer un environnement permettant la gestion des sources textuelles, des données (souvent contradictoires) extraites de leur contenu et des méta-données de qualité. La contribution de cette thèse est d'apporter une perspective multi-source à la qualité des données en définissant les concepts de base de données multi-sources (BDMS), de qualité de données multi-sources (QDMS) et de recommandation multi-critère. Mon travail s'est axé sur : la proposition d'une méthodologie qui guide pas-à-pas la mise en oeuvre de la qualité des données dans un contexte d'informations mulli-sources ; la modélisation conceptuelle d'une BDMS permettant la gestion de sources, de données multi-sources et t de leur rnéta-données de qualité et proposant des mécanismes de recommandation des données selon leur qualité relative, la formalisation du modèle de données QDMS qui décrit les données multi-sources, leurs méta-données de qualité et l'ensemble des opérations pour les manipuler, le développement du prototype sQuaL pour valider l'ensemble de mes propositions. Les perspectives sont de développer un système d'information spécifique à la veille pour qu'il gère des données multi-sources, prenne en compte la qualité de ses propres données et propose à l'interrogation une recommandation des données basée sur leur qualité relative. A plus long terme, il s'agit de développer le concept de système d'information "introspectif", c'est-à-dire actif et réactif quant à la qualité de ses propres données.

Murray Bowen, M.D., the first researcher to observe several live-in families, for up to three years, at the National Institute of Mental Health. Describing how family members overly influence one another and distribute stress unevenly, Bowen described both how symptoms and family leaders emerge in highly stressed families. Our brain is not organized to automatically perceive that each family has an emotional system, fine-tuned by evolution and "valuing" its survival as a whole, as much as the survival of any individual. It is easier to see this emotional system function in ants or mice but not in humans. The emotional system is organized to snooker us humans: encouraging us to take sides, run away from others, to pressure others, to get sick, to blame others, and to have great difficulty in seeing our part in problems. It is hard to see that we become anxious, stressed out and even that we are difficult to deal with. But "thinking systems" can open the doors of perception, allowing us to experience the world in a different way. This book offers both coaching ideas and stories from leaders as to strategies to break out from social control by de-triangling, using paradoxes, reversals and other types of interruptions of highly linked emotional processes. Time is needed to think clearly about the automatic nature of the two against one triangle. Time and experience is required as we learn strategies to put two people together and get self outside the control of the system. In addition, it takes time to clarify and define one's principles, to know what "I" will or will not do and to be able to take a stand with others with whom we are very involved. The good news is that systems' thinking is possible for anyone. It is always possible for an individual to understand feelings and to integrate them with their more rational brains. In so doing, an individual increases his or her ability to communicate despite misunderstandings or even rejection from important others. The effort involved in creating your Mindful Compass enables us to perceive the relationship system without experiencing it's threats. The four points on the Mindful Compass are: 1) Action for Self, 2) Resistance to Forward Progress, 3) Knowledge of Social Systems and the 4) The Ability to Stand Alone. Each gives us a view of the process one enters when making an effort to define a self and build an emotional backbone. It is not easy to find our way through the social jungle. The ability to know emotional systems well enough to take a position for self and to become more differentiated is part of the natural way humans cope with pressure. Its subject, reflected in the title "Sciences and Empires", is not a currently-accepted sub-discipline of the history of science; rather, it refers to a set of questions which found autonomy only recently.
