Book Description
Nuclear resonance parameters for levels created in reactions with incident protons and a-particles, as well as other light charged particles such as deuterons, tritons, and He-3 nuclei, are of great interest for nuclear spectroscopy, astrophysical models, thermonuclear calculations and other applications. In the Landolt-Bvrnstein volume I/19A the parameters have now been compiled. No systematic compilation for such data has been performed so far. A large part of the experimental data has been produced during the last 10 years. The compilation was prepared by eminent experts in the fields. One of the characteristics of Landolt-Bvrnstein is that data are evaluated before they are accepted for compilation. The idea is to present 'best values' which can be used with confidence by non-experts. Preparing such best values also implied making corrections necessary because of different energy calibrations in various publications. Subvolume I/19A2 contains the data for nuclei with Z ranging from 19 to 83. In view of the large amount of data available some of the information is given on the CD ROM only. The data for nuclei with Z up to 18 has been published in Subvolume I/19A1. Parameters for nuclear levels produced in reactions with incident neutrons were previously published by Landolt-Bvrnstein in volumes I/16B and I/16C.

Statistics for Nuclear and Particle Physicists
Author: Louis Lyons
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521379342
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 244
Book Description
This book, written by a non-statistician for non-statisticians, emphasises the practical approach to those problems in statistics which arise regularly in data analysis situations in nuclear and high-energy physics experiments. Rather than concentrating on formal proofs of theorems, an abundant use of simple examples illustrates the general ideas which are presented, showing the reader how to obtain the maximum information from the data in the simplest manner. Possible difficulties with the various techniques, and pitfalls to be avoided, are also discussed. Based on a series of lectures given by the author to both students and staff at Oxford, this common-sense approach to statistics will enable nuclear physicists to understand better how to do justice to their data in both analysis and interpretation.

Particle Accelerator Physics
Author: Helmut Wiedemann
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662029030
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 457
Book Description
Particle Accelerator Physics covers the dynamics of relativistic particle beams, basics of particle guidance and focusing, lattice design, characteristics of beam transport systems and circular accelerators. Particle-beam optics is treated in the linear approximation including sextupoles to correct for chromatic aberrations. Perturbations to linear beam dynamics are analyzed in detail and correction measures are discussed, while basic lattice design features and building blocks leading to the design of more complicated beam transport systems and circular accelerators are studied. Characteristics of synchrotron radiation and quantum effects due to the statistical emission of photons on particle trajectories are derived and applied to determine particle-beam parameters. The discussions specifically concentrate on relativistic particle beams and the physics of beam optics in beam transport systems and circular accelerators such as synchrotrons and storage rings. This book forms a broad basis for further, more detailed studies of nonlinear beam dynamics and associated accelerator physics problems, discussed in the subsequent volume.

Strong Interactions of Hadrons at High Energies
Author: Vladimir Gribov
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9781009290241
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Vladimir Gribov was one of the founding fathers of high-energy elementary particle physics. This volume derives from a graduate lecture course he delivered in the 1970s. It provides graduate students and researchers with the opportunity to learn from the teaching of one of the twentieth century's greatest physicists. Its content is still deeply relevant to modern research, for example exploring properties of the relativistic theory of hadron interactions in a domain of peripheral collisions and large distances that quantum chromodynamics has barely approached. In guiding the reader step-by-step from the basics of quantum mechanics and relativistic kinematics to the most challenging problems of high-energy hadron interactions with simplifying models and physical analogies, it demonstrates general methods of addressing difficult problems in theoretical physics. Covering a combination of topics not treated elsewhere, this 2008 title has been reissued as an Open Access publication on Cambridge Core.
