Book Description
The Dish Keepers of Honest House is an original fairytale. Rehabilitating four-greed stricken dentists is a task Irish butler EDWIN HEDGECROFT takes very seriously. As Ella, a former newspaper reporter on vacation in Ireland, examines past grievances with dental professionals HARRY BADGER, NELGON FESTOON, GUILLIAM MOREDUCK and MOTT FINKS, Hedgecroft's partner in concert MOTHER NATURE delivers invitations to a special meeting. The train stops within walking distance of Honest House, where a directional sign swings aimlessly until wind ceases and the dentists see the gate. Before them is another sign: "Dish Keepers, This Way." Mother Nature and Hedgecroft guide the dentists to consequences of greed. Imbalances in humanity stir up raging storms. These dentists learn why they are suddenly in the grips of phantom teeth, giant saliva containers, an indiscriminate tooth-plucking assistant, grotesquely repulsive nurses and dishes from every far corner of the world.

These topics and more come under the scrutiny of the Science Dog in Linda Case's latest myth-busting book. Learn to separate fact from fiction about the relationship between dogs and wolves, whether dominance should be a factor in dog training, what forms of reinforcement work best, and how to apply evidence-based training methods. Inclined Elders

Book Description
WHY EMBRACE AN ATTITUDE OF INCLINE? For the first time in history we are not only living longer, everyone has an important choice to make: commit to a meaningful, purposeful life of Incline as we get older or believe that a new stage - one of steady decline - is inevitable. What is not helping is that in the media and society in general there continues the somewhat negative connotation surrounding the concept of aging. And while, at least not now, we cannot do anything about the chronological process of becoming 60, 70, 80 years and beyond, we can change the mindset for it. Embracing change and looking at life with a keener sense of curiosity will lead to living with increased courage to live life to its fullest. INCLINED ELDERS is a call to action for you to opt for Incline. Not only for your personal fulfillment, but also to help fuel a social legacy that increases the number of positive older role models in everyday life. I have written this book to inspire, inform, and challenge you. By the time you reach the last page, I hope you will have made a new choice: to become an inspiring example of a life of Incline so our society relinquishes - once and for all - the notion that aging is synonymous with decline, decrepit, senile, and over-the-hill. In this book over 50 men and women ranging in age from 40 to 100 share their tips and techniques on how to live a life of Incline. Their strategies are supported by scientific evidence from the fields of Positive Psychology, Anthropology, and Sociology. WHO ARE INCLINED ELDERS? We are the women and men who have made a conscious choice to ignore society's negative mindset of decline and over-the-hill as we age. Instead we embrace a positive mindset of continuing to Incline and climb ever upwards. While birthdays may be the accelerator for aging, don't let them become the brakes that stop you from continuing to live a full and happy life. Why have I and the Inclined Elders in this book chosen an attitude of Incline? Because we intend to live a life of achievement, meaning, and purpose and not allow mere birthdays to get in the way. And an attitude of Incline will permit us - and you - to do this. The metaphor of a hill is an apt one to consider as you grapple with the concept of Inclining because hills are surely easier and more enjoyable to climb than steep, lofty mountains. And they still allow for inspiring discoveries and adventures. Some of their pathways may have twists and turns, and there may be the odd bump in the road, but it is important to continue the ascent. Why? Because the vistas on the trek upward are increasingly breathtaking and exhilarating. Inclined Elders know that there is no need to rush; it's not a race. We take one step at a time so we can pause to smile at the waving wildflowers along the road. Your attitude determines the potential for your altitude, so a shift in mindset is required, regardless of your age right now. As you awaken to each new day as an Inclined Elder, the sunrise will greet you with a symphony of color applauding your choice to Incline and climb the hill. You will continue to broaden your experience and deepen your joy of life. This is what has happened for me and the people who shared their stories. Serving as vibrant role models, the Inclined Elders I spoke to for this book are leaving their own unique legacies of wisdom and inspiration for future generations. There needs to be more of us like them to effect real social change. So why not Incline too? There's an amazing view from up here. Come with us and see for yourself. THIS BOOK WILL BE INVALUABLE IF YOU: Have a desire to continue living a purposeful life, no matter what your age. Are interested in learning how to maintain a positive attitude from adulthood to elderhood. Want to learn how to create a living legacy and serve as a role model for future generations.

ISBN: 0593100956
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 337
Book Description
"Lalli's prose is deft, her characters are delightful and her book is the just-right holiday romance."--USA Today One type-A data analyst discovers her free-spirited side on an impulsive journey from bustling Mumbai to the gorgeous beaches of Goa and finds love waiting for her on Christmas morning. Twenty-nine-year-old Niki Randhawa has always made practical decisions. Despite her love for music and art, she became an analyst for the stability. She's always stuck close to home, in case her family needed her. And she's always dated guys that seem good on paper, rather than the ones who give her butterflies. When she's laid off, Niki realizes that practical hasn't exactly paid off for her. So for the first time ever, she throws caution to the wind and books a last-minute flight for her friend Diya’s wedding. Niki arrives in India just in time to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, where she meets London musician Sameer Mukherji. Maybe it's the splendor of Mumbai or the magic of the holiday season, but Niki is immediately drawn to Sam. At the wedding, the champagne flows and their flirtatious banter makes it clear that the attraction is mutual. When Niki and Sam join Diya, her husband and their friends on a group honeymoon, their connection grows deeper. Free-spirited Sam helps Niki get in touch with her passionate and creative side, and with her Indian roots. When she gets a new job offer back home, Niki must decide what she wants out of the next chapter of her life—to cling to the straight and narrow like always, or to take a leap of faith and live the kind of bold life the old Niki never would have dreamed of.

Development in an Ageing World
Author: United Nations. Department of Economic and Social Affairs
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789211091540
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 216
Book Description
Greater longevity is an indicator of human progress in general. Increased life expectancy and lower fertility rates are changing the population structure worldwide in a major way: the proportion of older persons is rapidly increasing, a process known as population ageing. The process is inevitable and is already advanced in developed countries and progressing quite rapidly in developing ones. The 2007 Survey analyses the implications of population ageing for social and economic development around the world, while recognising that it offers both challenges and opportunities. Among the most pressing issues is that arising from the prospect of a smaller labour force having to support an increasingly larger older population. Paralleling increased longevity are the changes in intergenerational relationships that may affect the provision of care and income security for older persons, particularly in developing countries where family transfers play a major role. At the same time, it is also necessary for societies to fully recognise and better harness the productive and social contributions that older persons can make but are in many instances prevented from making. The Survey argues that the challenges are not insurmountable, but that societies everywhere need to put in place the policies required to confront those challenges effectively and to ensure an adequate standard of living for each of their members, while respecting and promoting the contribution and participation of all.
