Book Description
Excerpt from Cyclopedia of Law, Vol. 9: Principles of the Law of Private and Public Corporations, Including the History, Formation, Creation and Classification of Corporations; Corporate Powers and Liabilities; Municipal Corporations; Administrative Corporations, Etc In presenting to the public the elementary princi ples of the law of private and public corporations, it is believed that a two-fold benefit may be conferred: First, students of law, and others desirous of inform ing themselves upon these subjects, will be given a brief and economical hand-book with which to do so. Second, an abridgment of the rules of law governing corporations, will, it is hoped, tend to inform the gen eral public of the fact that many loop - holes exist in the State's control of these public agencies, and assist them in evolving a rational method of regulating the growing evils resulting from the abuse of corporate powers. To this latter end the author has, in the foot notes, called special attention to instances where the wise policy of the law, through the cunning of incor porators, has been rendered abortive of its true aims, and used to assist in increasing the burdens of the masses.
